lol you don’t understand even after I clarified. Then you say states have tried it yet can’t name one state.

States is plural so there must be two or more.

What states take your points if you get a tag for that species? I can’t think of one state. Educate me please.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds. Big game hunting could go the way of bicycle tours. My wife is a big fan of those and 15 years ago they were draw to get a slot, 7-8 years ago, no draw, but sold out in a day or two. Now they don’t even fill up and several have gone bust. Demographics are changing and numbers for a lot of outdoor activities that are hard just are not there.

Do we all despise the internet hunters yet? Or will that not happen until we're all only hunting once every 5 years?
Corb nailed it above. The root cause isn't the draw system. It's too much demand chasing too few tags. That massive recent increase in demand is driven by all of the absurd attention hunting is getting on the web.
Point based systems end with the people who draw being the ones who outlive everyone else Drawing becomes mathematically predictable to the year, insofar as the number of years occurs before the applicant dies.
Fully random draws also reach a point where the odds are fundamentally zero. They have the accelerated effect of encouraging new people to jump in, because they have the same terrible odds as everyone else.
Nevada's points squaring system is probably the best balance, but the outcome is the same.
If there's any hope for the numbers not getting worse, it's shutting up all of the attention seekers. Maybe it's time they understand that their behavior is destructive and unwelcome.

Wait people can hunt sooner than once every 10 years?

If I draw a dream tag or silver state tag I lose my points for that species? If I buy a voucher or a heritage tag I lose them? I know if you draw a PIW tag you lose them but I’ve never seen anything about the other opportunities to acquire tags there and losing points.

@dirtytough ... I think I've experienced OR taking my points when I drew a 2nd or 3rd choice elk tag. Willing to hear otherwise...I depend too much on my resident buddy to keep track of the system. I sure didn't want to spend my points on that unit.
Idk. Corb said multiple states have tried it so I was asking him. For some reason he can’t actually name any.

I have not said that I have not hunted while waiting on the tag. As a matter of fact, I took a nice 340" bull on public land with my bow and a few smaller ones while building points. I have been to 201 during archery season and there are some monsters around there if you know where to look. It is not like they just come out and say, "Here I am MR. Tag Holder." However, it would be one hell of a fun hunt.

Eh, OK. I expect that a resident would know better than I do. (y)
I was surprised about drawing that hunt and was not happy that my points went away.
I should pay closer attention.
The only way that could have possibly happened is it your 1st choice hunt was completely cancelled. Which I have never seen.
They used to take your points if you had no activity for 2 consecutive years.

But they have never taken points for 2 choice.

Lower expectations, burn your 26 points, draw a tag in a different unit and go enjoy your hunt. Thats the only real solution in the end and honestly, you’ll love your hunt you get. Then just move on with your life and never give CO another dime buying another point put the money towards actual hunts instead of chasing some perceived dream unit you still may not even kill an elk in if you draw with 32 points.

Good luck

The simple solution is to raise the tag price for both residents and non residents to the point available tags are in balance with what folks are willing to pay.
