I know there have been past threads on Tikka Rokslide special setups…but I am in the process of building a .223. There are some newish options available in terms of models and barrel lengths. Additionally there are lots of new suppressors and scope options out there. So tell me what the you have set up or what you think would be the perfect set up for a “.223 rockslide special,” for training and killing everything under the sun.

Tikka model?
Barrel lengths?
Aftermarket stock?
Scope mounting hardware?
Scope?
Can?
Trigger mods?
Coatings?

Show it if you got it built already.

T3X lite stainless
16” factory barrel 1:8” twist
Wooden RokStok lite
UM low rings
SWFA 6x42
OG 6.5, AB Raptor 8, Airlock Nano or 6.5
Factory trigger
Stainless steel PR Precision bottom metal
Waters, Mamba, or NDR 10-round magazines

Hopefully, EuroOptic will have the stainless 16” factory threaded 5/8x24 in stock at some point in the next few months. For now, just cut down a 22” one.

With the advent of the 88gr TMK make the twist 1:7

I will caveat this - you don’t need anything other than a 223 tikka and scope.

Stainless 223 tikka cut to 16-18” inches
Swfa scope - 3-9/6x/10x/3-15 mil quad
Um or sportsmatch rings
Suppressor

You can make the factory stock work just fine or add something like the full frame outdoors kit.

This forum will make you think you need to spend gobs of money - you don’t. I’ve gone the full circle. If you have it to burn - right on. But if it’s between a new stock and a suppressor- get the suppressor.

T3x stainless
Factory barrel cut to 16 inches and threaded
Rokstok
UM low tikka rings
SWFA 3-15
High desert rifle works bottom metal
OCL polonium

Not “perfect” maybe, but I’m quite happy with it.

That’s almost exactly my next setup for a trainer.

@Ajsomp said it. Q-sert also.

I personally would nitride a blued factory action and barrel. But, stainless is just as good. I shoot my stainless Preferred, and overall find them to shoot smaller groups than factory, but not by much. Factory barrels are fine for a trainer.

Go 16-20” threaded barrel depending on your wishes, with 16-18” the most common.

Suppressor of your choice, really, too many solid options to name one. I would get a 6 mm can though, increase usability and durability. I have the DD Wolf Hunter and the OG. Both are quiet. I also picked up some of the “free” suppressors from Backdraft/Outlier, and when shooting with ear pro I honestly don’t notice any difference. I also spot for others shooting different suppressors and there wasn’t a huge difference. The Airlock I saw was the smallest form factor.

Turn the tikka trigger set screw out till it hits the Allen bolt holding the trigger on the action and safety test it.

Add a vertical Tikka grip to the factory stock and a recoil pad.

I have a 16" tikka roughtech ranch, Maven rs1.2, OCL hydrogen S 6.5. Only mod is the vertical grip.
