Awesome Cindy, great boots are going to be essential to making this an enjoyable and successful hunt for you. Glad to hear you are getting hiking and getting all your equipment dialed in. Keep up the great work!

Thank you Darrin for sponsoring the target. He is a great guy with some very good targets! I have been using them for numerous years!

Hi Cindy,

Now that you're back home I would like you to be shooting a little bit 4 - 5 days per week (20-50 shots) so that you can get settled into a base form that you're comfortable with. No need to over-do it for now... We will get to that part later : ) Establishing a little archery muscle tone and a base to your form will allow us to work with something that isn't changing much from shot to shot. Sometimes beginners have trouble grasping stuff right out of the gate because they have no foundation to start with and their form is all over the place. Your traditional archery knowledge combined with what you learned from Evan will help us out here. You're not necessarily a beginner, but we're making some pretty massive changes to what you've known in the past.

Here's a couple articles to get you aquainted with some of the concepts we will work on - I will try to find a couple more to scan. Boring stuff, but it's important... try not to fall asleep! I recently wrote an article about the style of release you are using that may be easier to relate to. Focus on the major concepts and theory - we'll work out the personal application together in our 1 on 1 session. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Have not been on in a while so I need to momentarily back-up. How come D Long is wearing his boxers in that group photo? Next, It was recommended that Cindy hike more with a pack not only to get used to it and the weight plus now the boots. What weight is she carrying (19 pounds) and how is she loading the weight to mitigate injury etc. Just throwing something in there heavy and taking off...don't need to take two steps backwords with any spinal issues. Still enjoying this tremendously Thanks

Seymour....LMAO..... When you are "behind" the camera, you can wear whatever you want. :)

By the way, how come you didn't sign up for the Extreme Challenge that we will be doing in your backyard?

Cindy, if you don't know, haven't heard or don't realize how having Darin Cooper in your corner is a huge benenifit. He really knows shooting inside and out. When you have questions about shooting he should be who you ask. One of the best.

To have the backing of all of these companys and the expertise of these guys to help, you are truly blessed Cindy. I cant wait to see you take that giant buck that asll your hard work will get you, it will be well worth it. When is opening day of your hunt? Daniel

Thanks RosinBag! I really appreciate the compliment - just trying to help people out. I learned a lot of great stuff over the years from some of the best and always appreciated their time and efforts immensely. Cindy has been an excellent student. Really looking forward to an in-person coaching session with her soon.

Rick,

Yep, just throwing weight in and taking off. What are your suggestions for packing the pack?

Sorry I meant to get on sooner and post a little bit on vane selection earlier but with the fires going on here in the Springs i have been a little pre-occupied with a bunch of my good friends in on them.

As you can see from the pictures above that Cindy posted on the set-up we chose a 4" Bohning pink and white Tiger wrap. I am a fan of wraps for three reasons:

1. In my experience vanes stick to wraps better than bare shafts
2. I can clean them off and never put a blade on them. I soak mine in hot water, peel off the wrap and then let the arrow sit in Isopropyl Alcohol for a while and it eats the adhesive so I can simply wipe it off. Clean new bare shaft ... never had a blade on it.
3. They look cool and make arrows easier to track/find.

Darin and I are putting Cindy in a fixed blade Slick Trick broadhead and with the Schaffer I was restricted to the use of 3 vanes. Since I have some knowledge of the unit Cindy has drawn her tag in and the terrain (open) I went with a 3" Fusion over a shorter, higher profile vane that has the potential to catch more wind. To get more info on "Whipping the Wind" check out Darin's article: http://www.rokslide.com/2012-01-09-...-the-wind-tools-to-keep-your-arrows-on-target

I like the Fusion vanes because of the soft base that adheres better to the concave surface of our arrow shafts and I feel the Fusion actually stiffens up on the shaft once its fletched and helps control a fixed blade head better. I used the Bitzenburger Jig (for its vane to vane consistency) with a good helical to get the arrow correcting out of the bow.

I'll leave off the arrow specs for now as there is more to come!!!

Nice vertical there Cindy. I almost said there is no dancing in archery until the animal is on the ground, but then when you shoot a good group, you get new boots, you draw a good Unit etc. etc., start dancing girlfriend:cool:

Muley Hips Archery Target

I am LOVING this target! It is lightweight yet doesn't tip over when it takes an arrow. The arrows pull out super easy and I love the mule deer graphic. AWESOME TARGET! Thanks Darrin Brown and Hips Archery Targets.
