I bought a brand-new military surplus tactical assault panel to use on backpack hunts. It is durable, of course, and it is hard to imagine anything more streamlined with equal capacity/versatility. It is low and out of the way of my backpack's straps and belt. There are mesh pockets on the back of the panel that are comfortable. The center pocket holds my Nikon monarch 10x42s. The other pockets will hold maps, tags, phone, etc. In this photo, the magazine pouches hold a Springfield hellcat, compass, bear spray, game calls, lighter, and a katadyn water filter. There are more pockets for first aid and snacks if I wanted to add that. My release is tucked into the MOLLE and secured by a gear tie. There's a spare 9mil mag pouch attached also. This is an initial configuration, but it does confirm that I'll be able to organize pretty much anything I want to have when I drop my pack and leave camp or go stalking.
