The hunting forum needs a bison subsection

Yeah, I agree. I have an elk load built, tested at 450 and 591 yards. It’s at 168 grain bullet though pushing 2950 fps. Kind of silly that I can’t use it either. Because it’s 7 grains light. They do make 175 grain bullets but it’s back to the drawing board. I think I’m gonna try and do it with the bow though. Still testing my fixed broad head situation.
Yeah I had to order +200gr bullets for my .300 Wby and send them to my sister's place out of state then grab them during a visit since nobody locally carried .300 Wby larger than 180gr. Just nonsense.

By the sounds of your write up of the hunt, he ate over 1,000 grains! Sounded like you needed a dinosaur load!

In 1985 or so buddy got the call from DNR that the bison had come down out of Yellowstone and had 24hrs to get there from Arkansas. Made it and met the CO. Went to the location, spotted, stayed downwind to about 100yds and shot a nice bull. Not very exciting, about like shooting the farmers cow with a 300 Wetherby mag. Best part was the scenery and trophy trinkets. Shoulder mount, belt buckles for relatives from the horns and a whip from the tail.
