Awesome post OP! My 270 project didn't go smooth but it's coming around. I recently added an arca rail for a direct tripod mount. What I love is the overall length with suppressor. Unlike the featured 7mm-08 mine has only shot paper so far!

For anyone interested the scope mount is a Bobro QD. I find no poi shift when removing and re-attaching the scope. The mount isn't cheap but I sold all my other scopes after testing it.

Has anyone tried this concept/ build with a cva scout receiver? I had a similar idea for a light mountain rifle/ first rifle for my girlfriend, but am trying to do it on a tighter budget.

Get a real world weight on them. They are heavy. I bought one for my son for a specialty hunt (needed a straight wall cartridge) and it was several pounds heavier than the marketing materials indicated. It is a heavy chunk of iron.

I've been looking into it (barely started) since the T/C options are hard to find. I'd like to do a Hankins or Arrowhead module 45/70 conversion into a muzzleloader on a Scout.
This is all I've done so far:

This used to be legal but now I need to have a flash hider pinned on to get back to 16.1” before I can put this brace back on. This is a CVA Scout v2 Pistol in 350 legend.

Hot Damn, here I was thinking I was on to a new trend, building both a CVA and Encore with the Sharps grip. Come to find out a guy only 40 miles from me here in AK was the
Pioneer of The Hobbit rifle.
First one was a 6.5 CM CVA scout V2. CVA states this pistol only weighs 3.7lbs……well they were very wrong. I weighed it immediately after unboxing and it came in at 5lb6oz naked. 😡. As you can see the CVA is a bit of a pig, with a 3-9x40 Leopold and Talley rings. 6lbs11oz without my Deadair Primal suppressor. Being only a 14” barrel, had to put a brace on it.

I think you will find that brace is in violation of the new rules. I'd hate to see you get jammed up on a gun violation so you may want to check it out.

Appears the ATF ruling on pistol braces should be out this December. After that, you will need to do some sort of registration with photos and other “required” information that they seem fit. Until then, enjoy your braced pistols registration free !

Has anyone found a light weight barrel option for the Encore Hobbit's? MGM, EABCO, and SSK all list their custom barrel options of having a "heavy factory contour" which they say is .81" at the muzzle. Even at 18" in length, fluted, this equates to over 3 lbs for just the barrel. Does anyone know the muzzle diameter of the factory pro hunter barrels that can be found all over the internet? Looking for something in 280AI or 284 win.

I have a MGM 18” spiral fluted 7mm-08 arriving next week. I’ll post the weight. I called and they said the spiral fluting will remove the most weight.

This one stings a little for me to post but the rifle did its job. Aubrey shot her first goat and unfortunately we weren’t able to recover it before the bears got to it. Spent a lot of time in a Cub trying to figure out access, bought a ton of climbing gear, found someone willing to accompany me and ultimately we lost to the bears. That said, she did an amazing job and shoulder punched her billy at 608 yards with the Hobbit. The second goat for our crew was shot from 310 yards with the second Hobbit we ever built. That goat died right where it was supposed to. Due to the nature of the area, the goats always drop down into the canyon below when threatened. This generally makes your first shot the furthest.

All we have is memories and a priceless pic to show for her first billy. That’s her cousin in the orange hat, the black circle is where the billy was when she shot. His face was everyone’s (except mine ) when she drilled him. That was the most satisfying vapor trail I’ve ever seen. All the practice that we do gave Aubrey and I the confidence to know she could make the shot. Largely I need to thank @B_Reynolds_AK for getting the ball rolling on real world practice.

Red circle is where the billy finally landed. We found a route from the air and punched down into the canyon with ropes, harnesses and a huge assortment of hardware. Once in the bottom, deep water with vertical walls became the biggest issue.

Temps were in the 20’s which made this extremely sketch. Water from your boots flash froze on the rocks and turned them immediately slick.

This is me coming back from a very close encounter with a bear on the billy. Scared both of us to be honest. Nothing left to recover on the animal unfortunately.

I'm conflicted hitting like on those two posts with the outcome. However, the hard work and skill is commendable, regardless of the outcome.
It tore me up man, I'll move heaven and earth for my girls and to not have a recovery really hurt my pride. As upset as I am, Aubrey is more so. Having an entire animal go to the bears sucks. First time I've ever not recovered an animal and of all times it had to be with her first goat...

After 16 weeks I finally received my MGM barrel 18” 7mm-08. Dnz scope mounts medium height, and a Leupold VX-2 3-9x40. Thank you all for the inspiration!

I just found a CVA Scout in .350 Legend (straight wall cartridge I was looking to use in IA). Seriously considering a Hobbit project after the season.

I was able to get my CVA Scout and scope put together and have a little bit of range time before our gun season opened up. Plan to start the hobbit project after the season when the grips are back in stock.
