I’m sure this has been done a million times, but let’s refresh it. In today’s age, what kind of hunting opportunities and game numbers are better than ever? Here are my initial thoughts:

-Midwest Canada goose
-Midwest whitetail (depending on state)
-Eastern Wild Turkey in some states.

Interested to see other’s opinions or disagreement.

Elk, there are certainly areas hit hard by wolves, but there are also alot of over objective areas out there too, not to mention the recently reintroduced populations.

Pretty sure eastern state turkeys are on the decline, at least since the 90’s.

I should have specified the subspecies of Eastern Wild Turkeys in the Midwest. I pay closest attention in my state of IL. I think we are pretty close to our peak turkey numbers in recorded history.

Nonresident watching has been fantastic. It doesn’t matter what state, or what trailhead, there’s an endless supply of them everywhere you look.

I have a feeling this is the beginning of the end for pa whitetail. Between cwd and pgc issuing ungodly amounts of tags to thin the herd for cwd management i have a sad feeling that its going to spiral downhill quickly. However this year i have seen more deer than i can remember seeing as a kid.

I agree with you on both fronts.....as far as number of deer seen this year-its remarkable. We say the same thing, haven't seen this many deer for as long as we can recall (y)

I would agree on IL turkeys being the best they’ve been. 10 years ago in my area you wouldn’t see a turkey. I bet I didn’t see a turkey from 2000-2010 around here. Now they’re thriving and he have great hunts every spring on many properties. It’s one thing the DNR has right. Now deer populations, are here are much lower over the same period.

I have been hunting elk since the 80s and can comfortably say there are more now than at any other time I have ever hunted them.

I do think we will look back in 50 years and relish the land opportunities we have now. Public lands, in general, are shrinking. Access to private lands are becoming more difficult the older I get. My great grandkids will be lucky to have enough public land to hunt on.

Ducks and geese. Wolves. Elk. Mountain Goats. Whitetails west of the Mississippi. Turkey in several states are doing well, Indiana is one. Liberals are thriving. As are nitwits, idiots and morons.

Public land access is my biggest issue. Or land access in general.

Coues deer in old Mexico.
Antelope in certain western states.

Eastern North Carolina has more turkeys than ever! I would say the deer, bear, and coyote populations are also strong. Waterfowl has been down right awful though...........
