The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom

And then we have John 15:6 right afterwards:

"If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned."

I don't see or understand that as men literally burn people.
If you do not abide in Jesus Christ, you'll burn in hell.

I heard it this way recently...in Hebrew and Greek it translated as "dread or terror, to stand in awe of, be awed," like an earthquake...respect is a different word.

Whatever you fear, you give power to, and will control you. God wants us to fear Him because His control will be benevolent and beneficial. In a life full of insecurity and uncertainty, you are going to fear. What's important is what you give control to.

When you fear the things of this world, including man, you come under the authority and control of the god of this world, Satan. Other words for fear are anxiety, worry, stress, insecurity, dread, and panic.

We should be in awe of God and give Him our control as His love and guidance, is loving and beneficial.

You belive in a puny god. The God of the Bible is just that, a God. Who would want to serve an unjust, uninvolved, definable God who left the evils of the world unpunished? Not me.

That's the beautiful thing about the Lord God, each and everyone of us had been given free will to make or own choices, good, or bad.

people don’t understand the depths God has gone through to provide us free will. People don’t understand what free will is.

How are you qualified to determine what people do or do not understand about god? Are you not one of us, with our lack of understanding?

Yes I believe I God. And certainly do fear the Good Lord. I accept him.
Just curious, if folks are supposed to use this forum for hunting, fishing, trapping, shooting sports type of issues. Or a religious format ? Politics ? Education ?
Seems that things kinda stray off topic. And yes I could pass over everything, just trying to clarify what this forum is about

I believe that Jesus wants all of his sons and daughters to incorporate Him into every aspect of our earthly lives. Whether it be hunting, fishing, politics, education or whatever else he has formed or molded us into being. He is deeply interested on a very personal level with each person He has created. Like a great Dad, He wants to be involved with everything we do. But we have to choose to open the door for Him. Let Him in.

For those of us that seek Him and accept Him, He is the cornerstone of our lives, the rock of our foundation.

Quite the contrary - I don't believe in any god.

That said, what he supposedly did to Job sure feels unjust to me.
I know. But you've shown that if you did believe in a God you would prefer one that that doesnt judge evil. Im saying that I wouldn't trust in a God that didn't.

Also if your going to believe that God doesnt exist please step off of your moral pedestal and go do whatever you want. If you really are living in a brand of atheism stop living by meaningless platitudes and moral constructs. Practice what you believe and and don't try and tell me what's just and unjust.

"For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible," Stuart Chase.

While a famous and catchy quote, this fails to acknowledge that the key word "proof" (evidence) carries highly different definitions to different people and disciplines.

We've all met people who say they have proof of something - yet that proof is a dream, or a hunch, or a feeling, or that thing that happened to their cousin that one time. "Experiential proof."

On the other end of the spectrum, you have proof/evidence that is: 1) Observable 2) Measurable and 3) Repeatable. "Experimental Proof."

Proof is possible but the bar is the high one, not the low one.

Oh golly - the irony here is epic
Explain please! I ain't the tallest guy in the room and irony flies over my head! 😃

My point in that statement was that he is living by a code that cant trace it orgins to something with authority. My actions and how I treat others do have basis/authority i.e. God the Bible.

You don’t believe in any sort of Love in your life? You have absolutely no feelings of Love for anyone you’ve ever met? I am in no position to force anything on anyone (free will), but if you don’t believe in Love, That’s a pretty sad situation. 1 John 4:8

You’re only focusing on the first half of the book of Job and not the second half when God gives Job back everything he had but twice as much. Job was given a very heavy burden during times of his earthly life, but he continued to praise God and give Him all glory and honor up until the day God called him home.

We all have crosses that we are called to bear. Some have crossed that are heavier than others at different times in our lives. God knows his children, He knows what we are able to handle and what we are not. Job was a great man. Strong and steadfast in God.

One of my favorite books and Job 28:28 is my favorite scripture from Job. If anyone on here has doubts or is not a follower of Christ, just ask God to speak to you and help you with your walk with Christ.

When I was a devout christian I began reading the Bible cover to cover, not just the chapters that were assigned in bible school, and I was quickly disillusioned by the contradictions and nonsense (think about God sending bears to maul kids for making fun of a bald guy). Now I can't understand how anyone believes in any god. Something I thought about even as a kid was why there are no longer any miracles if it's so important for God that we believe in him. Most religious people would claim that there are miracles every day. But, let's imagine your pastor asking everyone to pray for Bill who lost his arm in a tragic accident. Everyone will say a prayer asking for him to heal quickly, learn to deal with his handicap, and maybe even to find a job that requires a one armed man. Not a single person will pray for him to grow a new arm, because even though the Bible says God will give you whatever you ask in Jesus' name, they know he won't perform a real miracle.

You don't need to believe in some sort of a god to believe in love...

You're thinking that atheism is synonymous with psychopathy. It isn't. We actually have feelings the same as everyone else, we don't live our lives without concern for others and believe it or not for the most part we aren't out committing crimes (at least most of us aren't - and most Christians aren't either).

Where did those feelings come from? Evolutionary instincts should be telling you to ignore those.
