The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom

Ummm, no, your light-years away.
Example, world belongings, worldly pleasure, heavy alcohol or drug use. The statement is, just because the world says you should do that, or need that, you don't.

Nothing about war, period.
It's the same point I made but I also pointed out the verse could be WRONGLY weaponized if taken out of context. It was not an accusation it was promoting discussion.

John 13:33-34 eliminates almost all weaponizing of Scripture, or misuse of to justify harm to anyone.

And then we have John 15:6 right afterwards:

"If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned."

Yes I believe I God. And certainly do fear the Good Lord. I accept him.
Just curious, if folks are supposed to use this forum for hunting, fishing, trapping, shooting sports type of issues. Or a religious format ? Politics ? Education ?
Seems that things kinda stray off topic. And yes I could pass over everything, just trying to clarify what this forum is about

It’s not a scared type fear. It’s been discussed already, but fear means respect, to hold in reverence. You don’t understand the concept because you’re against it. And that’s ok. I didn’t either for a long time. But once my personal relationship began I started to understand the need for a savior, and why anyone would fear the Lord. It’s your choice whether you believe or not, but you’ll certainly never change the minds of us that have met Him.

I asked akcabin, and don't assume I don't understand something because I oppose it. I oppose it exactly because I do understand it.

If the point is to respect god, then why not just call it respect? Fear is fear, and by using that word you instil it in other gullible people.

Why do you feel you need a 'savior'?

None of us are worthy but we can all get there if we repent.

Ah, of course. So the dictator that created you in all your unworthiness, just so he could demand constant submission and prostration from you, is the same one who dangles salvation and eternal bliss in front of your face like a carrot.

Repent for what? What horrible thing did you do? If your very existence is such an affront then why did he create you to begin with?

Do you not feel that these are the demands of a psychopath?

Why put yourself through this?

I agree but yet there's plenty examples of people using religion to justify evil
Lots of our politicians and world leaders could use this, especially in 2025
And throughout history, wearing the cross and talking about God does not make one Christian.

This is America (& Happy Birthday to her!) where we are incredibly fortunate to be able to freely believe whatever we want.

Along with that, belief systems may freely be challenged.

Slightly more on-topic...some other boards I know provide a subforum specifically for members to discuss religion, god/gods, faith and whatever mythos they like.

Putting this in the general forum feels a bit like that street-preacher with the bullhorn - however with no other more appropriate 'home' for these type of discussions, it is unsurprising.

Happy 4th, all.

All- Happy 4th!

Like any other topic or thread, we like to not have to moderate. If you are here to discuss the OP rock on. If you are here to troll, stir the pot and argue, that is against our rules. Discussions are welcome, trolling is not.

If you do not like the topic, move on, or create your own thread. Same as always.

Religion is based on what we can do to earn our salvation .
Christianity is bases on what God has done for us thru Jesus Christ.
So religions try to work it out while Christians accept our sinful nature and strive to allow God to guide us thru his word.

There may be a being that is more powerful or who would fit the description of a “God”, at least by our definitions, but they certainly aren’t represented by any of the thousands of religious organizations on earth.
