.300 Win mag. With the right ammo, it doesn't destroy too much meat on a whitetail, and it will work for anything else in North America.

What do you consider “the right ammo” to not destroy too much meat. I have a 300WM needing such a load.

From what I've seen, all copper tend to not fragment as much. Too much fragmentation/expansion causes more meat loss.

I completely avoid any kind of ballistic tips. I've had really good luck using Federal Power Shock 180 gr pointed soft points. Shooting behind the shoulder, I usually end up with maybe a 1 in exit hole and not a lot of meat damage. I haven't shot one directly through the shoulder.
