The All New MRC/S2H Marshall Rifle Now Available

Today, I drove 45 minutes into the mountains to do some extended shooting with the Marshall…

…only to find out I left all of the ammo at the house. Talk about an absolute waste of a morning.

In the interim, here’s some initial thoughts:

The finish is fantastic. No obvious blemishes on the stock. The cerakote on the barrel and action look great (though I already dropped it and put a big scratch through the barrel’s cerakote). I think cerakote is kind of dumb as it doesn’t serve a real purpose on stainless — and in my case is already now scratched. But folks who want a black barrel will be happy.

Weight with my U7, Armageddon gear cover, all the LOP spacers, NF UL rings, shorter mag (but unloaded, and SWFA 6x is 9lbs 7oz.

The trigger feels good dry firing. It breaks really crisp.

The action wasn’t “rough” or binding, but it certainly wasn’t smooth out of the box. I’ve racked it probably 150 times and it’s starting to feel much better. I’m told it’ll break in well so we’ll keep monitoring that. I will say the action feels very tactile — hard to describe, but it has a “feel” to it. It’s my first CRF, so that might be the case.

The LOP on a Rokstock with all spacers is too much for me. I need to pull a couple out. I figured that would be the case as the Rokstok without spacers wasn’t too short for me. This isn’t a knock against the rifle — just fyi for anyone. The spacers don’t come standard but UM will install for you before shipping if you pay for them.

With an 18” barrel and the can on, it’s weight-forward compared to my 16” Tikkas. I’ll be buying a shorter and/or OTB can to help this. I really wish they offered 16” barrels personally.

There is not a lot of space between the barrel and stock. Certainly no dead cat space. I can easily squeeze the barrel and stock with one hand and make them contact. I may eventually do a dremel and sandpaper to open it up more, but given who this audience is supposed to cater to, I think it’s a miss.

The muzzle brake coming standard is, in my opinion, another miss given the target audience. The first thing I did was take mine off. It’s currently being used as a paper weight but may make it to the classifieds soon.

Anywho, more to come.
