Just curious...What is the need/purpose for single feeding rounds rather than feeding them from the magazine?

And why would a CRF be preferred over a push feed for single feeding?

You run through your 5 round mag and have cartridges (attached to stock or in a pocket etc) you can drop in more quickly than you can get a new mag in.

Ah, OK...my hunting experience is limited to whitetails in the South. So, I've never been in a hunting situation where I ran through a complete mag and needed more rounds to finish off a deer (or two). But my question was really more about why a lot of folks (at least on Youtube...I know) like to single feed rounds while shooting groups at the range? In that scenario there is no hurry to reload. I frequently see folks in videos who are single feeding - and struggling to get the round in the chamber - while at the range. I was just curious about this...if there was some reason for not using the magazine at the range that I was overlooking.

You gotta up those #s on white tails, jk. I’ve had to change mags once w an elk, it was dead and didn’t know it and I send rounds till they’re down.

Haha...you can double up on whitetails in the morning, and still have enough bullets in the mag for the afternoon hunt. ;)

These rifles really are not comparable to a rss tikka. I have 20+ hours into each of my tikkas doing stock modifications alone. Plus $ and time getting the barrels cut and threaded. Then bonding picatinny rails. All to arrive at a rifle that is uglier and has more potential failure points than the Marshall.

The only things to complain about is the basic b**** name they picked for it, or to acknowledge that, like me, you're too cheap/poor to buy one.

How many custom rifles are going for under $4k. Heck some of the actions are nearly half that cost.

If you walk into a custom shop, not many.

I just assembled another custom action rifle for around 2700. This is a Kelbly action, "custom" barrel I ordered to my specs, and a chassis. I've been doing it for years.

So many folks on here that buy a stock rifle and then replace the stock, have the barrel sent out for threading, and or replace it seems like a waste of money. Anyone can purchase exactly what they want and not pay for wasted, or parts that need additional smithing, shipping costs, time lost etc.

No dog in this fight, and haven't read all the comments. I agree with others that you can't compare it to some rifles, and it sounds like this rifle is more for hunters who don't geek out on gear, and love doing things themselves.

As for this rifle being discussed, it's not a custom rifle, it's a factory rifle. To pay extra for someone to shoot a 10 round group-which most are going to do themselves....why? 1.5 moa isn't screaming accurate, but is a darn good standard. Add in a much higher spec'd custom action and better barrel, 1.5 and better is much more attainable, and can be done all day for under $3k. So $1k-1300 extra for someone to rack the bolt and feed rounds, again, who doesn't check their rifle out? This place is the most hardcore DIY group of dudes, but somehow these are attractive options from the factory for near actual custom pricing?

I'm guessing most of them will be better than 1.5moa and 1.5 is just to decrease the scrap rate while setting a realistic expectation. I'd be real sad if my new $3800 rifle wasn't under 1moa for 10

I handled the Marshall at the booth today and personally like the feel and function of a tikka better. You could tell it was quality and would probably be a lot smoother and better after being cycled a couple thousand times.

I’m not taking a stance for or against this statement. But I do think we are sometimes too binomial with custom/factory language.

This is a small company with a single person building and testing every rifle.
  • Is it customized to your order? No.
  • But is it a manufacturing line in some foreign country? No

Your Kelby atlas and barrel are basically lego parts fitting together.
  • Is it customized? Yes.
  • Is it anything groundbreaking, revolutionary, or truly custom? No

The MRC is much closer to “custom” than “factory.”

@atmat I was not aware that MRC had a single person building these rifles. Testing, yes... Building? That would be surprising.

Also, custom rifles are built to order. While including many features often ordered on a custom rifle, these are, in the plain definition of the word, production models.

YMMV, IMNSHO, etc.
