The 22 creedmoor thread

I’ve seen the same with the arc and creed although I still run both

Both 18” bolt guns on tikka actions with bullets from the same lot.

22ARC 80eldm 31gr cfe223
3090fps
22creed 80eldm 48gr RS Grand
3290fps

The creed uses 17gr more powder and gives an extra 200fps in shorter barrels
If you only had to pick one, which one would you go with?

In short the arc, very low recoil, quiet suppressed, long bbl life, good reasonably priced factory ammo if you want to go that route plus you can reload the brass afterwards. Hand loaded 80eldms at 3090fps doesn’t hit 1800fps until 855yds at 3500DA. 62eld vts run 3520fps with book max load out of an 18” Bbl with cfe223.

But if you have a 22creed that’s just going to be a hunting rifle with low round count or you don’t care about bbl life then the 22creed is awesome and flat shooting.

Then there’s option 3 get a 22creed hunting rifle and a 223Rem/22ARC trainer.

Thanks! I’ve got .223 AR that’s I’ve been using. Just wanting to get a bolt gun with a bit more range as the AR only has a 13.7” barrel.

That’s not exactly the case. Take a 80 ELD-X at 3170, as from my 18” bbl, and it outperforms the 112 MB at 2900 even at 900 yards.

5,000 DA
900 yards
10mph 90 degree wind

80 ELD-X: 5.4 mil, 1800 fps, 1.3 mil wind

112 MB: 6.0 mil, 1764 fps, 1.2 mil wind

Clarification question… when I run the numbers at 900 yards, 5000 DA im seeing these wind drifts with 10mph at 90*

112 match MV 2900 = 1.07 mils
80 ELDX MV 3200. Wind = 1.33 mils

Approx 8.5” additional of wind. I understand I nor most couldn’t actually tell the difference in field but just curious why I’m coming up with a larger difference between the two than you are. I’m considering 6cm or 22cm as my next rifle

Yeah I F’d up on that calculation. I apologize to @Bluumoon
You’re right, the 112 does actually outperform the 80 when those numbers are input.

As an update, I’m going back to the 6 CM and the 112’s or 117 TMK’s this coming year. 22 Cm was just too finicky with the Hornady 80 & 88 options. Maybe the new TMK 88 will be the answer.

However with the great options in 6mm that are easy to load for and high B.C.’s, I’m back to where I was last year. Will have a 16” 6 CM on a UM Corax build.

My next rifle will be a 22BR, I bought all the gear to build a 22ARC then sold it when I lucked onto a good deal on Lapua BR brass
I love my Howa Mini in 22 br, just have to open the bolt face.

My 22 creeds are fun to shoot as well. For science, I have 14”, 16”, 18” and 20” barrels. I haven’t shot mine much beyond breaking them in. This spring they should get shot a bunch.

I intend to send a new barrel to nitride and see what barrel life looks like. Anyone else nitrided a barrel?

But been able to shoot a lot of barrels to test for customers in 22 and 6 creed. Overall, the 22 creed is the easiest to shoot on the bench and in the field. It is a function of recoil, which I am seeing in the volume and back to back even. I am shooting the barrels in the same system, Tikka in a KRG chassis or a factory Tikka stock.

The 6 creed is still very easy to shoot as well, but in the marginal positions I like the 22 creed. Of course the 22 BR and the .223 are just that much easier.

That’s why I am sticking with 22 creed for hunting over 6 creed. If the BC is not enough for my purpose then I will go 6 PRC for the extended range and reduced wind deflection.

I can see why the 6 creed is a sweet spot for the one gun.
