It’s not. I was just getting a feel for OAL, which is why I noted not so clearly that I’m waiting for my adapter from US to thread it on properly.

So what is it that you wish Hornady made that they don’t already have in their current lineup? What twist would you like this theoretical bullet to work in?

I gotcha. Sorry I thought you were saying you hadn’t seen if Hornady had recommended twist?

Because this twist business had gotten out of hand I went to Hornady's site to actually see what they had to say about the twist rate for the 62-69's. Little info and no recommendation on twist rate. Later it was discovered that the bullet box has a twist rate on it. I think the question came up because they used a longer jacket on a fairly light bullet and the bullet length somewhat dictates the twist rate. Any way lets move on.

I’m leaving mine a 22-250 as well. My only goal with it was to shoot 65-77gr bullets in the 3025-3250fps range. I bought this rifle specifically to learn how to reload. I just need to go make some brass.

What was the impact velocity at that distance? Did you ever find the bullet?

2731fps at impact. I didn’t find the bullet, a moose on your own is a big project. (Was actually a double header, 30 seconds apart.)

None so far. I picked up some 65gr Sierra Game Kings. I’m also going to get some 75gr ELDM and some 77 TMK. Then I’ll work up some loads that are middle of the road and see where they land accuracy wise. It will likely have to wait until deer season is over.

I shoot the 80eld-m factory loads out of a 16" and its going 2934.
Shot a small whitetail buck at just over 100 yards. He was a bit more quartering away than I realized.
Ended up throwing away most of the back shoulder because it was absolutely ruined.

I can't imagine another scenario where I would ever nitride another barrel. I just sent it in because it was part of the deal and now that I have a few hundred rounds downrange its hard to validate even nitriding an action or bolt compared to a "regular" stainless gun.

I wouldn't pay a batch fee just to get a barrel nitride treated.

The push to start a batch is to get bolts and actions nitride treated.

I actually just had 3 more barrels treated but only because we were sending actions in and they were ready to go, and they were lumped in with the batch.

It's excess to get the guns nitride treated; the stainless guns are fine. I like the look and the action is really smooth so I sent in two more. The added corrosion resistance from nitride treatment has some feel good factor, but the stainless actions are really corrosion resistant too.

It's still hard to validate nitride treatment 6 months later after I that post other than "I wanted it."
