The 22 creedmoor thread

Below is from hornady's website. AB says .397 G1 .199 G7 for the 62 ELDvt. AB says .202 G7, .395 G1 for 77 TMK. same/same far as i'm concerned.

Sierra used to only list banded g1 BCs for the 77 tmk but looks like they changed it. Used to list as .420 G1 above mid 2000s FPS, around 0.40 in the middle band, and less below that (off memory). I've always treated it like a 0.2 G7, 0.4 G1 bullet but haven't shot em much beyond about 550 yards where it would be more critical.
I'll see if I can find the box that came with the 62 ELD VT's I ordered but I may have misread it or made a clerical error.

With .3850 it slips below 1800fps at 710 yards in my gun.

When I changed it to .3950 1800fps jumped to 730 yards.

This data point assumes that a varmint bullet needs to upset like a TMK.

Yeah, primarily just pointing out that "the point" of them is that they are very close to the same BC as 73 ELDm / 77 TMK and should be able to be pushed a fair bit faster so they dont have the same BC compromise that a typical Vmax / Blitzking type varmint bullet does.

The beauty of the 77tmk load, is it can be used from vermin to big game! Idk if anyone has put a 62 eld VT on larger bodied animals yet.

Stacked deer during management hunts through my buddies 22 creed. Deer dropped like a toilet seat. He wasn’t sold on 22 creed before that

Fellow 22 creed lovers.... I am surely overanalyzing but want some opinions. Have a sheep tag this year and have 2 different loads looking good for the 18" barrel.

77 TMK @ 3130 FPS (7 at 400 yards)

or

88 ELDM @ 3030 (8 or 9 at 415 yards)

Both options seem to shoot equal out to the 400 yards I have tested. Does a guy go with the better documented wound channel of the 77 or the better wind deflection of the 88??

77 is a 5 MPH gun... 88 is a 6 MPH gun. Not a substantial difference, but something. In fact, the elevation I am hunting it will probably be more like 6 and 7.

I don’t have nearly the experience of some guys on here, but I’d go with the 88s for the better wind number. Last year I shot 5 deer, 1 javelina, and probably around a dozen hogs with 88s out of a 22 ARC. I was very happy with how they performed.

Picked up this 22 Creed and I’m beyond excited to get it out and see what it does. It’s a Fierce MTN Reaper, 22” 1:8 twist barrel, rugged Alaskan 360 suppressor. I plan on shooting the 80g ELDM out of it with h1000 and fed 215s. I have a few questions though!

-is there a better bullet for black bear, deer, coyotes, etc…. I was really considering the 88g ELDM but through what I’ve read the 80g is about the sweet spot.

-am I insane to want to try this rifle on a late cow elk tag? What is an ethical effective range on an elk if it’s even a good idea? Has anyone on here taken elk with a 22 creed? I’ve seen the moose with a 22 arc but I’m pretty sure that’s not a very common case. I’d love to see feedback!

-any load info would be very much appreciated, please share your go-to load. I’m sure there’s a ton of loads somewhere in the 110+ pages on this thread, but unfortunately I don’t have the time to actually go through all of that. I’ll be sifting through the pages as I can but I thought this might be a quicker way.

Thank you!

With an 80gr I think you should possibly drop a category or 2 in the burn rate powder choice. H1000 has worked with the very heavy for cal stuff, 88-95gr, but will likely be on the slow side for 80s. 4831sc, N555, rl23, even H4350 and rl16. I'd try standard rifle primers as well if you have them. As a rule of thumb I don't really don't start testing magnum lrp until charges get above 60gr of powder. This has been my experience with 3 different 22cm barrels.

With a 22” barrel, you’re likely to see velocities past 3,300 fps. Just take a look at the 223 For Moose,Elk, Etc. thread for all the evidence you could ask for in regards to .224 cal bullets on those animal. Most of those are with bullets starting at like 2,800 fps. The search bar is your friend to find exact combinations of things your looking for.

Those with a lot of 22CM experience are generally preferring the 80 ELD-X for its wound channel characteristics and balance of speed to B.C.

I’m using Alpha LRP Brass, H4350, Fed 210’s, 80 ELD-X @ 3225 fps from an 18” barrel that is broken in.

I've got twice fired 6.5 Alpha brass. Any issue with just running it through a 22 die or do I need to step it down with a neck bushing?

I'd size one piece down, seat bullet and measure the neck diameter. Alpha 6.5cm necked down typically will land you around 254 loaded measured with a micrometer. Most 22cm chambers are 257, that's too tight for field conditions, and will limit performance. If you're set on using that brass, I'd neck it all down then fireform with a medium to low psi charge, then neck turn for at least 4, preferably 5 though chamber clearance. If you're unsure of what your chamber neck diameter is, ask the gunsmith or measure the outside of a fired case neck and add 001 for spring back, that'd generally with a half thou of chamber.

I have 4 firings on my 6.5 CM Hornady brass that I resized directly to 22 Creed. It's shooting around 1.5 MOA.

I didn't turn the necks.

It does have to be trimmed every firing so far except for a few pieces though.

Just joined the cool kids club. My kids have zero excuses for flinching now
Can't wait to see the daughter dump a cow elk with this!
