Could someone help me understand barrel contour a bit better and what would be appropriate for a 22 CM hunting build? My gunsmith uses blanks from proof research, but I could probably source from a different vendor if needed.

From what I can see on the Proof website, the stainless steel blanks for a bolt gun are only offered in M24, competition, and heavy palma. Would one of these be appropriate to use? Most of their CF barrel blanks seem to be Sendero, but I’m not sure why this isn’t an option for stainless steel or what contour I should be looking for.
Those are enormous. For hunting and steel I’d look at something like a Lilja #3 or 4

Those are going to be crazy heavy for a hunting build. You could always chop and flute heavily, but it’s going to add cost. You’re better off with a lighter contour like a Bartlein 3b.

Nice. I plan on trying that one next season. I've been using Berger 85.5 with good luck
Got any kill reports? Just ordered 300 of them yesterday, already have 600 77TMK’s waiting for the temps to get back into the 20’s/30’s before I can go shoot my new build. Using Alpha SRP brass and hopefully H1000 and magnum primers.

Post 1298 on this thread is an antelope I killed earlier this year. So far I've taken 5 south texas whitetail & about 20 pigs. Bullet works well. I haven't tested the lower end of impact velocity. Everything over 2450 fps has died very quick

You getting that “lightning” effect a lot of guys report Berger’s giving them? Any shoulder shots (even if accidental), exit wounds, etc?

All have been in the shoulder. Nothing has taken a step. So far I've gotten an exit every time. Our whitetail aren't very deep through the chest though. A big one is 130 lbs

Exactly what I needed to know. Thanks much, amigo! Don’t see the 85.5 getting much love in the 22CM thread. I haven’t gotten to use the 223/77 combo for hunting yet and I’m not sure I ever will now that I have the 22CM. Hoping the 8tw BSF barrel likes the Berger’s because the 77TMK seems like too much in the CM

You might have better luck with the 80.5. I doubt the 1-8 will stabilize the 85.5 depending on your elevation

I got to meet up with UM at the Western Hunt Expo yesterday and they were able to get a RokStok and SP3 barrel ordered for me! Really great group of people. Answered all my questions. Pricing was straightforward/fair and they made sure we got all the details correct. I'll post a picture when I get it all put together.

I’m finally getting ready to order a 22 Creed barrel for a Tikka build. I have pretty much all the specs decided but I’m struggling with paralysis by analysis on the barrel length. It will be a suppressed rifle and the goal is to keep it as short as possible. I can’t make up my mind between a 16 or an 18.

I’m thinking 7.5 twist, .120 FB. I want to try the 88’s first but will probably do some stuff with the 80 grainers as well eventually.

I’d like to be around 2850-2900 MV with the 88. Can I realistically hit that with a 16” barrel without pushing the limits on pressure? Or should I just go with an 18?

I was 2850 with Peterson LRP brass, h4831sc and the 88 eldm. That was in a .100 FB 7 twist. Very comfortable load there. 16.5” barrel.

If you want a comfortable 2900 I’d just go 18”. For me it also may come down to the size of suppressor I’m putting at the end. 18-20” an ultra 7 is comfortable. 16” is comfortable with a Magnus.

I’m getting 3140 with H4350 and the 88’s out of a 20” barrel. I think you can get those numbers in a 16” barrel pretty easy.
