Got one ordered up with a couple bushings. Hopefully after the first firing if I don't full length size I can push it a little more without pressure signs.Yessir 6cm with 252 bushing.
I do have a bunch of H4350. I tried it in my faster twist Creed with 80+ grain bullets and I wasn't impressed. I'll try it with these lighter 53's in this rifle and see how it does. I also tried the 62 VT's in my faster twist Creed. It didn't shoot them very well. I wanted to get this barrel in an 8 twist for the 62's. If it wouldn't shoot the 62's then I wanted to shoot the 53's. And 53's would come apart in an 8 twist if a guy pushes them to their potential. So I chickened out since there are a lot of bullets in the 50-55 range I would be happy to shoot if the 53's didn't.As noted above, alpha is goofy. Very consistent brass and it works well, but the web area is so hard it takes a couple firings to expand. Iv seen the same thing with 22 creed and 6 creed now.
I’d also try h4350. Should be easier on brass. My plan is after hunting season to try a 62eld vt load with h4350.
I picked up a 50% off cert the other day. I redeemed it yesterday and was quoted 7/7/25-10/15/25 for a serial number. Usually they have a lot tighter estimate then that. I want another 338 Ultra so I don't have to swap it between Creeds. But I don't want to wait a year+ and I don't want to pay full price.Iv got a K RR on order, been waiting since February. They must be pretty back logged, my date just keeps getting pushed out
I’m curious if I’ll pop 62vts in my 16” 7 twist. I am suprised by the speeds I see guys getting with the 6 and 22 creed, they are all over. At this point I’m not sure if I’ll do another 22 creed after this one.Got one ordered up with a couple bushings. YepMaybe I missed it, if so apologies. Can 223 barrels be reamed out to 22 creed?
Alright I'm finally getting serious on ordering a blank. Would like some input.
I'm thinking a 7.75 twist. I'll want to shoot 77gr on the light end up to 88gr on the heavy.
Home range is 4400' elevation
Barrel length, whats the shortest a guy can go and still get 3100-3200 with the 80-88 eld's?
Contour, leaning towards another light palma or possibly a benchmark #5. I will be asking benchmark if they are willing to do a .750 taperless though.
My #4 benchmark and 0.750 taperless pva are within an ounce of each other IIRC in the same cartridge/muzzle thread configuration both at 18”. The #4 has 0.725” shoulder at that length.Alright I'm finally getting serious on ordering a blank. Would like some input.

How much do they weigh? And what speed/bullet are you getting with the 18"My #4 benchmark and 0.750 taperless pva are within an ounce of each other IIRC in the same cartridge/muzzle thread configuration both at 18”. The #4 has 0.725” shoulder at that length.
They are 6 creeds so not applicable to this convo for velocity. 2# 6.5 ounces is what the .750 weighed. That’s with tikka tennons, a 700 pattern would be a little heavier. How much do they weigh? And what speed/bullet are you getting with the 18"
I was planning on a 20" but an 18" would pair really nice with my Enticer Lti
How long do you wanna wait for a barrel?Alright I'm finally getting serious on ordering a blank. Would like some input.

I already have a benchmark blank on an order placed in March so I shouldn't have to wait too much longer. I just need to make changes to the order as it was going to be a 25 cal blank but I ended up finding one in stock, so the one on order is going to be a 22 cal.How long do you wanna wait for a barrel?
Most of the big names are still out a year plus.
You could order a pva 750 taperless blank and have it next week. But then your stuck to 7 twist.
I wouldn’t pigeon hole your self into a chamber designed only for the 88. If you end up with a barrel that dosnt care for it, it nice to have options without jumping them a mile.
If I were buying today and had all the time to wait I do think 7.5 twist would be what I would go with. Contour isn’t a huge deal I just want as light as I can get with a .750 muzzle.
If really light is something you want you can go plenty light with a 22 cal and have it threaded 1/2”.
I think you’re going to want 20” plus to be comfortably there. If you’re not afraid to push the pressure harder than I am you can likely go shorter.
Hornady now has load data, along with hogdon and Peterson. Combined you can get a good idea of what you should get out of a bullet at 24” and 60k psi.

I'm too vested in 5/8 muzzle devices to start going to 1/2.
Yeah I'd rather have a 20" at 60-65k psi then a 18" at 70k+.
I agree and don't want to be pigeon holed into the 88's. Id like to have a chamber that will fit the 88's with the bearing surface right above the donut and not too long that the 77's are jumping over 100 thou, but im getting ahead of myself a bit, I havent even started looking into freebores yet as I'm just wanting to spec out the blank right now. I probably have another 4-5 months before benchmark has it ready
so going to load up some 77gr TMKs for season this year. What powder and how much do you think?
I shot a 80.5gr at about 3400 (24" barrel) last year on the buck in the picture and it went only about 15 yards before diving headfirst into the dirt, no exit.
I was thinking about 41gr of H4350. 3400 with a TMK might be too devastating on them... lol
