Oh I wouldn’t scrap it. I’d just use it on the next barrel. My smith cuts my chambers within .001 of each other. Maybe I’ll just take him 2 barrels now that I think of it and get them done at the same time.

I use to be hesitant about using brass in other barrels. But that was when I was trying brass from different barrels from different smiths that had different reamers.

Barrels cut with the same reamer, to the same spec, I haven’t had any issues at all

If that’s the plan I’d definetly have him chamber them at the same time.

I'm pulling a shot out 243ai barrel and want to go 22creedmoor next. I've shot out 2 22-250ai barrels so know about what to expect for barrel life with the 22cm so no issues there.

My question is on length. My last 22-250ai barrels were 24 and 22" but this time I'm going to be running it with a scythe ti supressor all the time. Fwiw the rifle is on a rokstok and wears an lrhs 3-12x .

I'm thinking of going 16" to keep it as short as possible. Is 2900 w/88's doable at 16?

Anybody here who went 16" and not been happy with it?

I’m at 2950 with 17” barrel and 88’s. I could probably get a bit more speed, but I settled there.

Did some more break in with my 16.5” this morning and Copper Creek 75 ELD-Ms settled in at 3140 and are ridiculously accurate. It went from 3100 to 3140 from shots 95ish to 110ish and then stayed there.

What do you expect for barrel life?

Nice - mind if I ask what your load consists of?

Peterson brass and 39 grains of h4350.
The 4350 is on the warm side and I was getting pressure before I could really fill the case. I loaded 10 with reloader 23 I might play with 100 of those and see what I think

I know “the shorter the better” if you can get acceptable velocity but in my experience with overbore cartridges, I always got my best 300+ yard accuracy with 18”+ barrels.

call that SD, RPM, whatever phenomenon you want. Just my 2 cents. Seems like more to long range accuracy than an exit velocity.

This coming from someone that only shoots suppressed, wants the smallest most overbore, heavy for caliber cartridge he can shoot. I’ve settled on 22cm with 18-19” barrels.

Shooting the 22 creed back to back with the 223… decisions.

22 creed with 88eldm at 2900, 7mph rifle where I’ll be hunting (antelope)

223 with 75eldm at 2780, 6mph rifle where I’ll be hunting

I won’t pull the trigger past 500 yards.

Crazy how much easier the 223 is to spot shots with positionally.

Plus with the 223 I can justify lugging along 300 rounds to plink at prairie dogs after tags are filled.

comparing apples to apples, Say you’re shooting both with 75eldm. 3250fps vs 2780 fps. Sub 350 yards, Would you say the only advantage is a flatter trajectory? Small critters moving fast at unknown distances being the primary target (smaller, quick hogs/coyotes/etc)

I know rokslide is primarily a western hunting forum with more time to range on larger game, but it seems there are more free thinkers here. It also seems like the juice would be worth the squeeze on a varmint/depradation rig bumping from 223 to 22cm at those distances. Especially on a windy evening

Take both? Use the 22 creed and it’s better danger space in an area that is hard to get a solid range on then have all the fun in the world plinking after you fill your tags?

Tried an 80eldx load.

16.5” barrel.

H4831sc in alpha brass

41 made 2850fps
42 2945
43 3025

I loaded a bunch at 42 grains to see how the barrel likes them.

I won’t shoot the 77tmk in this gun anymore I don’t think. Balistically in my short barrel it really dosnt do much that the 223 does not. Atleast with the 80 and 88 I get a little more performance.

If I do another 22 creed I think I’d go 20” just to make it a little different from a 223, as of now it’s too close to justify.

I’m ticked to death with 19” barrel and the 80 ELDXs so far.

77 TMKs in my .223 as well.
