77tmk has only 0.030 less bearing than the 88. My next barrel will be throated accordingly. This is the dummy I'm sending my smith to throat for touch. It's a bit ahead the neck shoulder junction for some seating tunage.

Anyone regretted throating their barrel for 88s at a longer coal? Say around 2.75ish to keep the boat tail just above the shoulder-neck junction.

Base to ogive on the 75 eld is .102" shorter than the 88. Boattail seems the same length or is damn close. That the 88 you have in the picture? I thought I was seated long at 2.75" I'll just send that away and have it chambered.

Yes that's an 88. The boat tails on the 75, 80 and 88 are all pretty close. The 80/88 nose are close, it's all in the bearing surface.

Two questions if folks don't mind...

What are we seeing for barrel life on average with "conservative-ish" 80 ELDM and 77TMK loads?

What are we seeing for rough yardage if a guy wanted to stay over 1,750ish impact velocity? Let's say an 18" barrel.

18” tikka 22-250 reamed to 22 creed
80eldm-3125 fps mv
900yd- 1804 fps

77tmk-3200fps mv
800yd-1782 fps

I don’t know about barrel life yet but I don’t care, this is my new favorite caliber and will chamber another when this one is done

Heck yeah! I would also just spin another barrel on, but I shot 500 rounds of .223 77 TMK just this morning...

I too have joined the ranks of 22 Creed. I just pulled the 6.5 PRC barrel from my Zermatt TL3 and added a 20-inch PROOF barrel in 22 CM. Haven't shot it yet, but I'm looking forward to busting a deer or antelope with this combo. Last week, I was shooting a Horizon Firearms 22 Creed out to 650. This cartridge is a beast.

Ive had mine a month and have around 450 through it, I hope I don’t shoot it out before my deer hunt but it’s just so sweet to shoot! Can spot almost every impact and it’s quiet with a can. It’s almost identical to shoot compared to my 223, just more power!

About to order a barrel in .22cm. If I’m wanting to shoot 80 & 88gr Eldm’s, what twist rate would be best? Thinking about a 22” or 24” barrel. I’m at 1000’ asl.

My 16.5" 1-8 twist will be put together by the end of this week, very excited to shoot it this weekend. With the slower speed's I'll get from the shorty barrel think I'll have trouble stabilizing an 88 ELD-M?

I'm not a reloader yet, I have a case of factory Hornady 80 ELDM and a box each of Copper Creek 75gr ELDM, 80 gr ELDX, and 88 gr ELDM.

If you are wanting to build one off of a slow twist Tikka 22-250, can I buy a take off 8twist .223 barrel and have it chambered and swapped?
In my mind I think it should be fine. Just wanted a second opinion.

Thanks! Not sure I can specify a bore diameter with criterion.
Well if they only make a 218 bore get another barrel.

Edit: maybe that's a bit harsh but a tighter bore will increase the likelihood of blowing up bullets. A mate here with a 22-250 in an 8 twist was blowing up 77 tmks running well below creedmoor velocities and the tmk have a thicker jacket.

@Formidilosus and anyone else with experience with both 22 and 6 CM;

A lot of people are choosing the 22 CM for 0-600 hunting ranges, though the ballistics carry 1800 fps out to a lot further than that.

Say you want your effective range to be 900 yards on game and you practice to 1200 regularly on steel & rocks. Both cartridges carry sufficient velocity for both those purposes. Would there be any reason to choose 6 mm rather than 22 for any particular reason, ie Splash size, wound cavity size etc.?

(22 cm w/ 80 & 88’s, 6 CM w/ 108-115g)

One particular reason I’m building both is legality in a few states. Very interested to hear @Formidilosus opinion on your question though.
