I wouldn’t buy one over the other although it is handy to pick up cases of match 108 6 cm.
If you shoot mils it’s a 1mph difference

The tradeoff is that several states have a 6mm minimum for big game, or specific species.

Hopefully it speeds up, I don’t count on velocity numbers much until I have 200 rounds in. Iv seen barrels speed up over 100fps in that 100-200 round area.

I’d try some Peterson LRP brass. I think LRP are the way to go for the 22 creed. They just seem to handle the pressure better. Had some significant cratering on a few rounds with h4350 ( I think 4350 is a hair fast for 22 creed), but with LRP brass I have yet to see a problem, and my rounds are water safe, where I’d rather not pinch off wet h4350 srp brass round.

You could also try 4831sc.

You read a lot of the bullets popping and that’s a concern of mine as well. Mine hasn’t popped one yet, but I plan on keeping velocity lower, and cleaning every hundred to avoid unnecessary roughness on the jacket. We will see I guess.

You really see it in matches where it rains, as hunters generally just stay home on a rainy day. Not uncommon for some rain to shut down some rifles if you’re not careful to keep your ammo and chamber dry.

It’s part of the reason I don’t run very high pressure loads in any of my rifles.

I would agree with that. Blew a primer in a really hot 30-06 load when I got some snow in the chamber.

Had some moisture on this hunt but not enough to cause an issue with chamber pressure. Usually not worth the extra 50-100 fps to push the limits on pressure IMO

Small primers just don’t seem to handle pressure like the large do. Pockets last forever, and srp are everywhere, so I get the appeal.

If I get another 22 creed it will be fed LRP brass only.

I also had a few hang fires with h4350 and cci 450 in this rifle. I’d rather not have to worry about that.

Primers are the weak point. LRP have thicker cup (.027” iirc) while SRP cup thickness varies between .020” - .025”

SRP brass is alleged to handle pressure better.

I don’t feel it handles pressure any different than large rifle. It will hide an over pressure load if your only looking at primers and bolt swipe. I use both and honestly don’t have a preference. The only advantage as mentioned above is primer availability has been better in SRP, especially cci 450m

Alpha is the only srp brass available that uses large flash hole. I've found no ignition or more than expected velocity fluctuation between 85 and 15° with H4350. The brass is tough as hell, holds similar capacity as Peterson, which is about 1gr less than lapua.

The case head might, but like noted below the cup on a lrp is thicker. I can’t say for sure but it has sure seemed to me that lrp handle pressure a bit better in the creedmoor cases.

I still shoot srp brass for matches. Due to case head strength, and availability of srp.

Iv never had a problem with srp Lapua creedmoor brass in both 6.5 and 6mm, though Iv seen a few hang fires at cold matches. I had multiple hang fires in sub 15 degrees with a relatively low h4350 charge while breaking in this rifle. That’s why I decided to get some LRP brass, and at the time alpha wasn’t available.

I don’t know the difference the flash hole makes, but I have seen enough in a couple thousand rounds to push me to use lrp in a creedmoor case for cold weather.


Another note, this prefit made another sub 2” 5 round group at 400 yards. I’m pulling the scope to shoot some 223 the rest of the summer but come October it will be back on.

Went out with my match gun to shoot some paper at 400. Decided to see what the 22cm would do. This was 5 at 400. I think I can handle 2780 fps if it shoots like this.

Yes it’s an osprey blank, and the work was done by PVA as a prefit.

It made another group similar to that one a day ago too. Barrel has really turned on.

I’ve got about 200 rounds on the barrel now. About 50 rounds ago the early pressure signs started to disappear. I think the barrel is done speeding up and settled in a 3100fps with 37.5gr of H4350. I did have a bullet blow up using h1000 at around 3100 so I’m hesitant to push it any faster. I also realized my barrel was not torqued down enough and caused some of the head scratcher misses/issues I’d been having.

10 shot groups were averaging about 1.3” with the loose barrel and look a little tighter now, not that it matters much.

Worked up some loads with my 22 creed. C6 Tikka prefit, 26" 1-8". 85.5 Bergers. Federal 210's in virgin Peterson brass. First rounds down the tube, maybe a little slow. We'll see if it speeds up.

I was hopeful Magpro would work out as a RL26 proxy. I might drop down to 40-41 gr and work back up. Really liking N555. Gonna work groups with that and HD.

I shot up to 45.5 grains H1000 with the 85.5. Alpha brass with CCI 450. Mine didn’t shoot great. I didn’t resize the brass first and could definitely feel different force to seat the bullets so that might have had something to do with it.

I resized just the necks on mine. There were a few where I could see the necks were a bit out of round, so they all went through. They seated pretty smooth.

I forgot to add...my H1000 and 4831 are pretty old...like maybe 15-20 yrs. I got them out of my Dad's powder stash.

My 22" 22cm runs 77s at 3350 with N555, and at 3450 in cooler weather(full case) I also have an 18" 22cm and 85.5s with 39gr H4350, they're at 3050fps. The 18" 22cm is using alpha brass, the 22" lapua. The only load that's on edge is psi/spicy is the 77s at 3450 in warm weather, but that load in Oct through may, runs good. That rifles on a Tikka, rock creek 8tw barrel, and the 18" is on an osprey barrel spun to a bat action.

Interesting. The only ladder that pushed against pressure was the Magpro. I suppose I have more room to go up in charge on the others. Fired only 50ish rounds so far, so maybe she'll speed up.

Curious what charge of N555 you're running? I didn't see much data out there for N555 on the 22 Creed. I just interpolated based off the burn rate chart/known loads of similar powders and checked it with GRT.

I don't remember exactly as notes aren't in front of me, I do know the two nodes were 1.3gr apart. Believe the 3450 node was 45.5 and 3350 node was 44.2. I use a 12" drop tube and have enough freebore to keep bearing surface above the neck shoulder junction.
