I water test my match rounds and will on my hunting stuff as welll, though I now purposely load fairly low because of it. Quite a few match shooters have figured this out after blowing brass on rainy days. Im shooting 42 grains of h4831sc on my 22 creed.

I normally make it as realistic as I can and shoot in the rain/snow.

Couple rounds wet by dropping in snow or set out in the rain.

Careful doing this. It’s going to wreck brass and at Rokslide standard 70,000 psi it’s not advised. Proceed at your own risk.

I learned about this the hard way on a hunt in Alaska. I was 1 grain under where I saw pressure and was blowing primers out on wet cases from river crossings. I pulled another grain out but haven’t tested to see if that’s enough. I don’t think it needs to be any harder than dipping it in water or spraying it with water.

I’ll load up 38 & 39gr. as well then and start at 38gr.

I’m not going to test it any higher than I have to. Just want to see where it gets dicey at.

I tested wet cases this evening. Sat the case head in water and they sprayed the entire case/bullet with water.

Went from 38gr. and 3180fps up to 42gr. and 3444fps.

The bolt a little lift resistance and click at the top, but nothing too too crazy.

I then went back down to 40 grains with a standard load and was still getting a bolt lift and click from just the residual moisture.

But I think 40gr. is a nice forgiving load.

You should absolutely come out to the MDT match in Arbuckle. It's a great match. You could shoot skills, shoot one day with the 22cm and one day with the 7-300.

I was JUST looking at the schedule and saw that one!

It’s the weekend after I get back from an aoudad hunt. But as it gets closer I’ll get a feel for whether I can swing it or not. If I didn’t already have that hunt set up, I’d just plan on doing it.

If I shoot it, I’d absolutely shoot 22CM one day and 7-300 NMI the next. I’m totally opening to gaining perspective and sharing my thoughts afterwards

You would have to tone it down to 3275 as max velocity, something to keep in mind.

If you’re willing to do this to learn, I can imagine a match would be a really good time for you. Probably could shoot with some of the guys watching this thread too.

Appreciate that info. That’d be a piece of cake with both guns. The 22 creed at 40gr. H4350 is just over 3300.

I’d fully expect to shoot the 22CM better, I would love to REALLY know the differences

No legit difference at all in ES, and 20fps difference in speeds. Once fired being faster with the same charge. I haven’t shared the data yet. Gathering it now actually lol. Gun is hammering though.

Interesting, I knew there's usually a speed increase with once fired, but I would have assumed the velocity would stabilize a bit with the uniformity! I'm getting close to firing the last of my virgin lot and doing brass prep, I'll record everything and see if there's any differences.

Not that really I care anymore, I was just genuinely curious. My ES was 62fps for 10 shots when I proofed my load and I thought "shiiit..". Haven't had a single shot go outside the expected dispersion at distance. Honestly blew my mind, lol.

Basically all my 10 shot groups are around 30 ES. So I’m assuming a larger data set would be around 50-60 as well. Like my very first 25 rounds.

But it shot pretty damn good at 600 yards.

I’ll see if it shows up at 1000 yards, but it’ll take a lot of shooting and chrono watching to notice it I’m sure.
