Well I was stuck on sticking with my bikini highcamp 7k, but now seeing as I have unpacked all my moving boxes and my Kifaru pack didn't make it  looks like I will be ordering a bikini EMR II instead. Luckily I won't be the one having to foot the bill, although I am still disappointed and upset that my pack somehow went missing!

I'd be fit to be tied myself but it looks like it will work out in the end if they cove your loss.

WHEW, nothing like a false alarm. In a last ditch effort to find the thing, I looked in a plastic tote that I didn't realize was part of the move and lo and behold there it was! My wife had to come out to the garage to see what the excitement was all about. haha! Looks like I will wait on the EMR II for a while.

What is the weight difference between the Nomad (with a camp bag) and the EMR II? I don't really see how the Nomad could possibly be a more viable option than the EMR II if a guy only wanted one do-it-all pack.

That all depends on what your preferred method of hunting is.

If you do a lot of day hunting and only one or two week long trips each year, than the Nomad will be a better option than the EMR.

On the other hand, if you're doing more extended backpack hunts than anything else, than the EMR will be better.

Both will work in either scenario, but the Nomad has more versatility than a EMR.

Different strokes for different folks. That's the beauty of Kifaru and some of the other top end manufacturers. They listen to what the consumer wants and give them options. For me (and what I would guess at about 90% of those of us that live in my area,) 7 day trips are very very rare, so the Nomad is perfect for what I do.

It seems like the majority of folks that live in states like MT, ID, WA, WY, CO... "back country" states, are mostly weekend warriors with occasional 4-5 day trips. Simply because we have 3 months to hunt and have to spread out our days off of work and other obligations. Many of those that have saved for 2 years and take all their hunting time in one chunk to visit these states are the ones making the 7 day excursions... but even then, my guess is that the number of these type are pretty rare as well.

There are obviously exceptions to the rule like Aron, some guides, and most of the AK guys that do bomber trips all the time.

I typically haul bone-in quarters... My guess is that the Nomad will be much better at this.

So as far as I can tell the ci difference is about 1200 right? I guess you could add a 1 pound longhunter lid and have the same ci and only be about 6 ounces heavier with the nomad.

Crazy how the numbers can be so similar but they are TOTALLY different beasts as far as function.

Aron and the Kifaru crew are the best. They give options for any type of hunting you do. In my opinion, that is the sign of a truly top notch company.

Mines going on the Duplex...keeping my Bikini Highacmp setup for hunts that I really want to go light as possible (like a sheep hunt not involving packrafts) and the like.
is this because you like the Duplex better than the Bikini for hauling weight or just because you have the Duplex already?

solid. if i were buying one from the new line up this would be it
I'm with ya.. When my current pack goes, this is my leading candidate for sure.. Really dig the setup. Kudos to Aron and the folks at Kifaru. This takes the best of a lot of different packs and melds it with the Kifaru touch. Just about perfect...

For weights 120 and over a d awkward loads i prefer the duplex over tbe bikini. Plus i still want to keep my highcamp bag on the bikini frame for a light weight setup

I too would go with the duplex. This bag screams heavy weight to me. It wouldn't be a pack for 100% of my trips, I'd keep my T1 for that. But this bag on a duplex would he a elk hunters dream, this elk hunter any way

For me the Nomad is a much better option since I already have a highcamp 7k. Combined it has a crazy amount of ci space, more then the emr2 and not too much more of a weight penalty (were talking oz's) but that penalty will only be there on the way in and out not while I hunt, during hunting I'll have a lighter weight setup (over a lb). Plus I will only spend $250 vs $450 for the emr and I will not take a hit on selling the Highcamp since I'm keeping it.

I agree for some like yourself tbe nomad migbt be better. For me i plan to uses both the emr2 bag onthe duplex frame while Becca is using the highcamp onthe bikini frame. That and the easy access of the center zip of the emr2 makes it beeter for me over highcamp nomad. Just get what makes sense for your needs.
