Thanks for the input guys. Strange hostility in this thread.. I was just looking for some input from folks that have used a Tikka 223 reference the action length. This is a great community and a wealth of knowledge and experience.. lets keep it friendly guys, we have enough folks out there that don't like gun guys and hunters, we don't need to get aggressive with each other.

I've ordered the rifle and 2 mag kits from Ascension. Starting with 400 rounds of AAC 77 OTM for practice. Thank I'll load some 73 AMAX or 77 TMK with the brass.

Excited to get the new rifle up and running, I think it'll encourage me to get more rounds down range.

My T3 Varmint really likes 75 gr ELDM over Benchmark. The ELDM are cheaper and much more available.

Ascension is having a Black Friday deal also, 2 for $50.

I prefer my Ascension mags to my MT mags. Smoother feeding, lighter weight.

And I have plenty of Tikka mags to swap springs out. And they swap right back if I want to.

This is the new gen 2 mag from MT you're comparing against for claification?

Does the spring need to come from a tikka 4rd 223 mag or is the same spring used in the other tikka 3rd mags? I'm not familiar off hand.

Pharmseller says the Ascension mag feeds smoother that the MT. Not sure how that’s possible, as mine feeds very well, but I don’t have an Ascension to compare it to.

How many rounds through yours do you estimate? I realize they were recently released so probably not a ton of time yet.

I need more tikka 223 mags, deciding factory 4rd or one of these options.

The Gen 2. I have 4 of them. I had a failure to feed on one of them on my first loading but I futzed around with the spring and it hasn’t failed since. The Ascension are smoother and I’ve had zero issues.

I left the MT mags at home when I took my .223 to deer camp.

I’m still a little peeved at MT over how long it took for them to swap out my defective Gen 1 mags for the Gen 2 but that’s water under the bridge.

Given the sales, I ordered two Ascension kits and two MT mags. Will see how I like each and try to update after some use.

You previously mentioned the 527 which is very short on magazine space, as is the Sako
The 537 is a long action which was why you were against the Tikka
Sorry, I meant 527. If you’re loading beyond factory length, I can see the miniature bolt-guns being an issue, but most won’t do that.

As for me being against a Tikka, I didn’t intend to convey that. As I posted earlier, a .223 T3x is my favorite rifle to shoot. It’s by far the best value in the rifle world.

On my Tikka, I use an extended length mag. I throated my barrel out to let me seat longer. Looks like 2900-3000 fps won’t be an issue at all with an 80 ELD-M from a factory 22” barrel.

Do you know about the spring question? Do the ascension mags need a spring from specifcally a 4rd 223 mag or do springs out of the various 3rd mags work?

I would love to see the velocity you could get with a 52 grain V max in that chamber
I haven’t tried anything lighter than 73 ELD-Ms, but I could. I’ll try some 52 V-Max if you want to send me some to try, as I don’t have any on hand. Was also curious about the 62 ELD-VT.
