Tell me to shut up and buy the Tikka

I just got my first Tikka last week, 223 trainer cut to 18" and threaded. Went to the range Monday and couldn't be happier with my investment in my skills. Don't think about it, just buy it. For what it's worth I've been shooting a couple different Christensens and a Browning for the last several years.

The only thing that pisses me off about the action is it having a stupid short mag length in 223!

I understand. However, I’ve been running the Gen 2 MT 223 mag. It’s been working well. Allows for almost 2.6” COAL

Don’t the tikkas chambered in short vs long action from the factory have different bolt stops anyway? Meaning, the short action chamberings have a shorter pull? Maybe I’m misunderstanding the “issue” and I only have a 223 at the moment. I sure didn’t notice anything of that nature when I used it to launch a 77 tmk and butterflied a nice mature whitetail buck’s heart a couple weekends ago. Didn’t notice the near zero recoil, superb trigger, slick bolt, solid optic mounting, perfect feeding from the mag for a follow up shot (not that I needed a follow up after watching impact through the scope)… you get the idea.

@Schmo What's the Gen 2 MT 223 mag? I'm not familiar, but I like the sounds of being able to load to 2.6"!

Just kidding, add me to the list of people saying just shut up and buy it. I've never heard of someone buying a .223 T3x and then deciding they shouldn't have. Lots and lots of people say "why the heck did I wait so long, should have bought one a long time ago!"

Action length is a minor aesthetic thing, if they made a mini action a la Howa I'd happily buy one, but owning a Howa mini and a T3X .223 the Tikka wins by quite a bit. I like that Howa but the Tikka is hands down a better functioning rifle.

FWIW. Sakos and Tikkas are the dominant rifle in New Zealand and have been for decades (Sako is the premium brand). Remingtons and Winchesters I almost never see in the wild here and most shooters will desire Sako/Tikka which is the opposite vs. the states. Tikkas take a ton of abuse by guides and hunters. They are hard working accurate rifles.
