Can anyone tell me if this is a wild or farm raised sheep? I can't find much info as the original owner is not around to confirm. Im guessing the numbers on the back have to do with the mount instructions perhaps. Thank you.

Flathead screws are a dead giveaway. 70's. That said the mount looks good if it is 56 years old.

Is it plugged (a metal disc with a number visible in the back of one of the horns)? Just curious.

Mount does look good to be from the 70's. Most Dall mounts from that era would be yellowish if they've been on display in the (sun)light.

I bought it on Ebay and get it friday so Ill report back. Its a long story but really just trying to figure out if its a wild Dall or some sort of farm raised in Texas hybrid sort of thing. Chatgpt says its not a wild Dall so trying to get a human who knows what they are talking about to verify...Figured yall know better than that robot.

Its the truck bed makes AI think it's from Texas.

I haven't seen any of the high fence/exotic sheep that look that much like a Dall.

I'd go with an actual Dall, just not a big one.

The writing on the back of the mount could be a license number or other data to help law enforcement identify the person who killed the animal that the taxidermist wrote on it at the time the head was mounted. My taxidermist told me he does that on virtually every piece of taxidermy he does.

Still cool no matter where it came from. Buddy who is a realtor just got a Dall sheep half body on shale and 2 100 inch Coues and a nice brown bear rug. Client did not want them, still has a 362 bull elk he's trying to off load. Very cool stuff.
