Tanya's 2015 elk hunt

Good luck you guys. It's too bad that you have to break down that plush looking field camp.

Tanya or Ryan, are those 11x45 Mavens in the one pic? If so, what is your impression of them compared to the other mid-price range binocs like Razors, Conquests, etc. that you may have tried previously?

Mike7,
Yes, those are the 11x45 Mavens. My impressions is they are VERY impressive for a mid-range bino.

Lol! I WAS referring to the spotting scope too! keep your mind out of the gutter

I am a sweet and innocent Midwest rube. You put the quotation marks around "share" first.

Give Ryan some love. I shared my binoculars with my wife during the lunar eclipse, but I'm stingy with my spotting scope.

Huh...that scenario sounds very familiar....Ryan and I must have the same communication skills with our wives, when it comes to explaining the difficulty of the upcoming hike...or your understanding of "we have to climb a mountain" is different than ours. :)

Luke,
I knew you would be able to relate after the hiking story you told us.

I underestimated how lazy people are. People will drive their 4 wheeler right to a place they plan to hunt?!? We witnessed one group try and run the elk down! Complete BS!

Anyways, we are back to the spot where I saw a nice bull last night . I was hoping to be here this morning but like Tanya said, it was fogged in tight.

Side note, if your not glassing with Binos, you should be.

what kind of pad is that your using to sit on??

I thought I would post up a few funny pics from the hunt

While glassing for elk, we drove by these guys and I blurted out 'holy sh$t! What the f$ck are those?? DONKEYS?! Yeah. Not so much. They were MULE DEER. The guys seriously laughed for 10 minutes over that. But you know what? I AM THE ONE THAT SPOTTED THEM. So, Who's laughing now boys?

Honest mistake. Funny but honest.

My brother n law destroyed the bumper on his nicer than mine, car south of my place. We took a road trip to see; one said bloated rabbit. After all it could have been a jackalope.... It was 2 badgers. Honest mistake. :) He still gets mad when my kids tell the story.

That's alright Ryan mistakes stuff all the time too, like the cowboys for a real football team.

Uh Oh! Tanya is a bigger Cowboys fan than Ryan.

That's why I can't wait for her to shoot an elk that is just slightly smaller than mine. If that happens, she has to wear a Seahawks jersey the rest of the season. And Tanya HATES the Seahawks!

It was an honest mistake! Donkeys come in all shapes and sizes...god knows I know a few that don't look like those mule deer

Sorry we went to an area out of cell service. We have seen lots of bull, but no real shooters. Tanya has lots new ideas on hunting:)

4 wheelers should be banned during hunting season! I know most obey the law but for some reason I am see ALL the assholes that don't.

In response to 'Tanya has lots new ideas on hunting'. No, I SAID 'I guess when I was always accusing you of waiting until the last day to shoot something so you could hang out with your buddies, I see now it doesn't really happen that way'. I still am on the fence about that statement....

Tanya, thanks. I am coming to realize that my one set of universal 10x42 binoculars are okay for everything, but aren't going to be best for me for anything. And I am less than impressed with the couple of spotting scopes I have been able to try.

I think ultimately I am going to sell my 10x42 binos, and then look at those 11x45 Mavens or maybe the Meopta 12x50's for glassing off of a tripod for mule deer, and then try to find something small, decently priced, and with a wide field of view in the 6-8x32 range for still hunting in the NI thick stuff?

We need more pics than a Donkey! Come on you guys are killing me. I check these threads several times a day while I'm sitting here dreaming about being in the woods. Good luck Tanibunn.
