30-06 with 200g partitions is freaking sweet.

I was thinking to suggest going with the 180 Partition. But I wouldn't quibble about about an extra 20gn. No big game you couldn’t hunt with that.
In just the last few years my 30-06 has been used to take:
elk
mule deer
black bear
pronghorn antelope
wolf
grizzly
It did just fine on all those at ranges from 40 yards to 340 yards.
Most of those were taken with the 165 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip at 2940 fps, from a 24" Remington barrel. I did go to the 200 gr Nosler Partition for the grizzly hunt - during which I also shot the wolf. Though I normally use the 165, I have to admit that the 200 worked very well.
If by some odd stroke of fate, I had to go to one hunting rifle, it's my 30-06 that I'd keep.

Hodgdon Superperformance. What powder are you using to get a 165 grain Accubond going 3000fps in your 30-06? I wouldlike to try it in mine.
Thanks

Have a line on a very nice 30-06 on what seems to be a solid price. I have a 308 and 270 WSM and was looking for 300 win mag, but this rifle is talking to me. Will be used for deer and hopefully for elk in the not so far future. Thoughts are appreciated.

Hathcock had an ‘06... that’s all you need to know.

For the 30-06, I'm still using H4350, with good accuracy, and it boots the 165's out at about 2940 fps, from my 24" Remington rifle.
Some folks still seem to think that the ol' 30-06 is stuck in the 2600 - 2700 fps range with hunting bullets. Nope! Nothing wrong with that velocity, but there is a lot more available via handloading. I haven't shot any factory 30-06 ammo in a long danged time. Wonder how fast it is these days?
