I've decided to take my 6.5 creedmoor moose hunting in Alaska this year. I've got a 140 gr Speer Gold Dot loaded over 41.7 gr H4350 doing 2680 fps. Everything is zeroed and it is shooting great.

The hunt is next week and I don't have enough free time to work up a load for my 7mm-08, .308, or .300 Win Mag.

Happy to hear any opinions you might have or experience hunting moose with Gold Dots or this caliber.

While i would strongly encourage you to carry something bigger in the event you encounter brown/grizzly bears you'll most likely be fine. Moose aren't what i would consider "tough". Most go down fairly easy depending on shot placement.

Nah, them won’t work. Probly just make ‘em mad. 😳

Actually, any animal will die pretty quick if you poke holes in its lungs. I probably would have chosen one of the other fine cartridges you list before the 6.5, but your choice should work fine. Just wondering why you chose the 6.5/Gold dot combo from all those good options. If there was ever a time for your 300 Mag, it seems like this was it.

I normally hike with my .44 mag and bear spray. I'll have that and a rifle during hunting season. Should be good.

enjoy your hunt, put your kill in this thread:

I've been busy and haven't had time for load development with it. The 6.5 is dialed in.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I'll be plastering the internet with photos if I get one. Don't hold your breath waiting though. My luck is pretty awful.

Broadside shot and under 200 yards, you will be fine. Anything else and I can think of a dozen better choices.
Just be very selective of your shot and you will be fine. Moose are easy to kill. Sometimes it just takes them a few minutes to figure things out.
