So I have been messing around to get my vxr 31.5 set up to how I like it. I started off with 27” mods and 70 pounds. It felt long with my stan Perfex as far as anchor goes. I swapped back to my finger puncher it felt a bit better as far as comforbility. It seemed to tune fine. I then swapped to a 26.5” mod and 70 pounds it seems to fit a bit better at full draw. I shot it though paper and get a tail right tear. Moved the rest all the way out To left still a tail right tear. Confused I hung it up for the night. I am shooting a axis 5mm 340 shaft with 100 gr tip. Am I over spined? Is my draw length too short causing the tail right tear? I just am unsure of what to do other than have to order a top hat kit since my dealer didn’t include them with the bow. Thanks.

Agreed, you need the top hat shims to fix that. My VXR 28 did that when I picked it up and had it tuned.

Guy at the shop had my rest maxed out one way, still tearing one way (can’t remember which way). Swapped the top hat and it shot a bullet hole on the first arrow. No rest adjustment.

Same issue with my Traverse. Before you buy a tophat kit take a look and see if you can just swap top hats. I was able to swap my bottom tophats and it moved the cam the way I needed to go. First shot afterwards was a perfect bullet hole with a bare shaft. Tuning was a breeze after that.

Is a guy able to swap the top hats from side to side or from bottom to top? Are the top hats that come on the bow the same on both top and bottom?

To all of my understanding. yes you can switch the top hats from bottom to top. Just have to make sure the top hats equal .175 total when combined. So the ones that are in the bottom cam need to stay together and the top cam need to stay together but they can flip sides. The top cam will yield the larger correction. The bottom cam moved the same amount as the top cam will yield a smaller correction.

One of the finer points. When you are putting the little axle screws back in the axle, if you feel any resistance you should stop, you are cross threading the screw. you should only need to tighten one side of the axle. If you need another allen wrench on the other side of the axle to keep it from spinning you are cross threading the screw, stop and realign the screw. They are quite easy to cross thread.

Another question if I swap the top hats around on the top does that require me to swap them on the bottom?

Swapping my bottom cam had more of an effect on the tear than swapping my top cam. Just FYI. Pick on cam that will move it in the direction you want and start there.

So with a right tear. I looked at the top cam the larger top hat spacer was on the left side. I should be able to fix the tear by swapping the thicker top hat to the right side and the thinner to left side on top cam?

No for a right tear you want to shift the cam to the same side as the tear. If your larger shim is on the left, then your top cam is already shimmed to the right. The only change that is available is to move the bottom cam to the right as well, if it is not already in that position.

Agree! As long as he is looking at the bow from behind:):)
