So I had an accident taking my ATV out of the back of my truck April 13th right before the turkey season resulting in a compression fracture of my T-12 vertebra by 35%. For the last 11+ weeks I've been in a back brace (Aluminum not the turtle shell), next Thursday is my Dr appointment to do a final x-ray and get this dam brace off of me, I have PT appointments set up for once I get free. I find that as the Dr visit gets closer the more apprehensive I am becoming about what to expect. The good thing is nothing happened to the spinal column area, the compression fracture was just the front part, no nerve issues. I have been working my lower body out pretty good for the last 4 weeks but for 3 months nothing at all for the upper body, all in all I am feeling really good but I haven't bent my back for a long long time. I have 1 1/2 months to rehab before my Sept moose hunt and would like to hear anyone's thoughts on what to expect after I shed this brace.

I don't have any advice/suggestions but man I'm glad to hear you're recovering well and things didn't end up a lot worse. Best of luck in your continuing recovery and in your hunt.

I don't have experience with that type of recovery but, take it slow. They give you limitations that increase gradually for a reason. I have seen more than a few people over-do it because they "felt good to go" listen to the docs.

Best of luck. Let that moose hunt be massive incentive to heal fast and heal correctly. It would be for me.

It actually should go pretty smooth. That portion of you back is very stable. There will be things you do or ways you move it will feel like someone stabbed you in the back, usually intense but transient pain. You'll learn pretty quick what those movements are and avoid them. Shouldn't really give you much trouble.

You still have the ATV? I sold mine after it attacked me and tried to kill me.

I was very lucky! it happened taking the ATV out of the back of the truck, as it started down the ramp somehow I leaned on the throttle it shot me down the ramp and it rolled backwards on top of me, I have a big box on the back of the ATV and that is what gave me enough room to where it only broke what it broke, without the box it would have snapped me like a twig, enough to make me shutter when I think about it.

Taking it slow is an understatement, this has been the slowest 3 months I have ever experienced, my mind wants to bust out of the gate and start slinging mud but I do agree that I need to take it slow, it has to be about the long term result despite my wanting to go hog wild.

I wonder how hard it will be to stretch the ligaments and muscles out after all this time because right now the muscles are constantly knotted up from being forced into good posture.
LOL getting stabbed in the back really pisses me off and what really sucks is that I will be the one that will be stabbing myself!

I do still have the ATV, the wife wants me to sell it and get one with a roll cage, the good thing is she mentioned me getting one with a roll cage! maybe a side by side in the future. She doesn't know I have been wanting one!

Just keep a positive attitude and focus on one day at a time. Don't get frustrated and let your body be your guide- you will get there! Try to make small improvements instead of worrying about getting it all back at once. I wish you the best in your rehab!!

I am rehabbing a knee injury right now and I was very optimistic going into the first doctor check up and I left very disappointed. It has been almost 3 weeks since then and I have made leaps and bounds in recovery. I cant speak for your back but at first progress was slow but the more mobile I got the more progress I gained in a shorter amount of time. Just don't push yourself too hard too fast.
