Hey everyone, need some advice and input from those who have used the Kolpin gun boots. I was going to order the newer version gun boot called the stronghold xl because the description says it holds a scoped rifle up to 52" with a bipod.

After reading the reviews and some pictures that customers have posted it seems like it won't be usable to a rifle with a 50mm scope with exposed turrets. So, my other option is to just use my hardcase and strap it down in the rear bed.

Has anyone used the Kolpin with a rifle similar to the specs I listed above? Any other options?

I've heard from friends that the gun boots are crap. I have a Polaris Ranger. I put my rifles in a Pelican case and strap it to the front rack. There is less bouncing/vibration up front.

I run the Big Sky overhead gun rack in my Ranger. Works great, keeps rifles handy, inside, securely mounted.

Have a similar issue with my ATV. Colorado requires hard case. So I think I’m going to have to strap my pelican to it.

I've got one of these, works good.
Do you find the guns bounce around in those cases? Do those bags have any kind of strapping inside to hold guns in place?

I’ve thought about the overhead racks but hunting the high desert it’s so dusty I need the guns inside something.

No straps inside, but there is about 1.5” of padding on either side of the guns and they fit pretty tight in there.

I grabbed a stronghold xl since it was only $55 for a retuned one on Amazon. I havent figured out a good way to use it on my X3 max.

I'm using a Pelican hard case strapped on my atv. I looked at the Kolpin, I didn't like the lack of padding.

I thought you just had to have in a case, soft or hard case?
Interesting. I swore it was a hard case but I can’t find anything online when I google it. Need to see where the rule is stated to see. Would love to be wrong. Would make it easier to transport.

Page 15 of Colorado Big Game Laws says soft or hard case on an OHV. Has to be unloaded in chamber and magazine. We got stopped a few years ago on 4 wheelers and my nephew had shells in magazine. Game Warden gave him a break and just had him remove them.

Kolpin is trash. You mount that to your quad/SXS and the back-forth motion when you go over the smallest of bumps will beat the ever loving piss out of your rifle. Do not buy one. Strap your pelican sideways instead. Save you the hassle from having to re-zero your rifle after every trip on the sxs.

If I wasn’t clear enough, don’t buy a ******* kolpin. It is satan’s scabbard.

I run the pelican HF knock off, Made brackets for the bed on my Can Am. IMHO way better than a Koplin. less vibration and abuse. With a suppressed 20 in. bbl. there's plenty of room.also.

Since I had two of the older model Kolpin gun boots I bought a holder for my new Ranger 1000 xp (2024) that would use those. No issues with those in 15-20 years of use. I used it on someones rifle years ago had 54 objective. Been lots of 50s carried with it. Not sure on the turret issue. I sure wouldnt have any problem using my pelican case. I looked into the overhead rifle carriers and I think its either too dusty or muddy where I hunt for me to get comfortable with those.
