Switch from GoDaddy? My poor experience

So after reading about what GoDaddy did in another thread, I decided to switch my domain registration after having been with GoDaddy for more years than I can remember. I did a bit of research and thought I had found a better, and less expensive, alternative - Domain.com. That should have been a big red flag. Short story - the devil you know.... Paid first charge on 1/12 and was told "don't worry, the switch is easy! No, you won't have any problems with email being forwarded." Then had to pay another charge for some other service on 1/21 (only after I inquired on the status) and was told the transfer would take some more time. Today I learned that the transfer was complete, but a test email bounced. Now I'm told that some domain MX blah blah blah had to be redirected manually. "The email should work in another 8 hours."

Making a change on principle has been a bit of a PITA.

Sorry to hear about your email issue.

I've set up websites for family and friends on both HostGator and Blue Host. Both are cheaper alternatives to GoDaddy.

Thanks. First world problems though, right?

The funny thing is the founder of go daddy is a huge hunter. He’s not much involved anymore, but just shows you how woke everyone is getting.

I still have two domains on godaddy and only laziness prevents me from moving them.

Anyone else find it odd that a company like godaddy who made their name with sleazy superbowl commercials is now so woke?
As I said, Parsons isn’t all that involved any more.

corps are being silently blackmailed by the agitators. And they know it.

Just from a functionality perspective, not a huge fan of godaddy.

Name cheap for buying domains, super simple, free privacy, and just works.

Gsuite/Google workspace for email.

Flywheel for hosting. Unless it’s some low/no income site, decent hosting is always worth it, and flywheel is the bees knees.

GoDaddy deplatformed perhaps the largest firearms forum on the internet, AR15.com, with zero notice.

All you need to know.

Voting with your dollar has never been simpler.

That's the thread I was referring too. I don't regret my decision to vote with my dollar, but it just wasn't as simple as I had hoped.

Google is a monopoly that bans free speech and dissenting opinions far more often than GoDaddy, unfortunately.

While I won’t get into the ignorance of constitutional law, I will say that I look out for myself.

And gsuite is a better product, it’s not even close for me.

If someone comes out with something better, I’ll switch. But I’m not going to take money out of my own pocket because the best product out there is under the umbrella of a private company who exercises their rights.

I care about how good a product is first, then if there are products of more or less equal quality/performance I will look at non tangible factors.

I’m a crazy capitalist like that

I fear that voting with your dollar will eventually put you in a position with nowhere to spend them if you’re truly consistent with adhering to your principles.

You have to make sure your ns/dns is setup at the new registrar before you finalize the move. Or use 3rd party NS like cloud flare.
