SWFA Gen 2 Fixed 6 - when??

Right! Just ordered 1 of the gen 2's and I'll be looking for deals on the gen 1 to snatch up for cheap.
Luckily, I happened to catch the availability earlier today and then quickly became part of the problem as far as them selling out so fast.

I don't have any intentions to sell any of my legacy 6x's; they're all sighted in and squared away on rigs I'm happy with. But, for those who do want to sell their Gen 1's, the gen 2 sold out so fast that it seems there will be a strong used market for at least a little while. And if prices someday bottom out on the gen 1's, I'll happily snap those up, too.

Wow they went fast, happy I grabbed one. Besides this forum, why does the 6x sell out before everything else? It’s a proven scope at an absurdly cheap price, but beyond that? Curious is all.

Because it’s an awesome scope in the most useful fixed power setting. This isn’t the only forum where people like SWFA scopes. When I first started getting back into serious shooting a few years ago, my Google-fu led me to SWFA. And then a couple of folks over at the Sniper’s Hide and on 24 Hour Campfire begrudgingly admitted that they were good scopes. I bought two and loved them. Then I discovered that my older brother had two of them as well. Which surprised me, because he generally just gets his stuff from Sportsman’s Warehouse or PSA.

Ugh. Fine I’ll order one.. or three

I go back and forth on which scope I like better - the 3-9 or 6x. The HD glass is nice but parallax adjustment is also nice.

There are times I “think” I need 4x for closer shots, because let’s be honest the 3x on the 3-9 ain’t great, but I keep the scope on 6x most of the time anyway. The 6x is the easiest scope to shoot IMO and zero stop included from factory is nice.

Shout out though to @pods8 (Rugged Stitching) for making the shim kits for legacy models.
I had 3 SWFA 3-9's at one point. They're all gone now. I actually prefer the 6x's. My 3-9's pretty well lived at 6x anyway, and I prefer PA for rimfires, varmints, etc.

It's not that I disliked the 3-9's; they were fantastic scopes; it's more that when they weren't available for so long, guys I know needed the 3-9's more than I did, so they all got passed on. Eventually, I replaced 2 of the 3-9's with LRTSi's, which I much prefer over the 3-9's for general big game hunting, unless weight is the overriding concern. Then the 6x and 3-9 get the nod.

Do you currently own one, 6x that is? As in, you physically mounted and shot?

I borrowed my brother’s gen 1 6x for about six months. Then he asked for it back. Since then, I have been unwilling to pay the $450 second hand prices I have seen. That’s why I snapped up two of them today.

They are going on my RSS in 6.5 CM and my RSS in .223. Neither of which is actually ready to use right now, the 6.5 is getting a barrel trim and threading and the .223 is in transit.

I'd say it's far more than just RS users pushing demand. They are pretty universally well regarded in the shooting world, IME.

I recall taking some mockery in a hunting camp many years ago for running a rebadged "Trashco" with a rudimentary chicken drawing roll stamped on the side. That was a 6x. I recall dialing it to 500 or so the next day at lunch - which many, including myself, regarded as a long poke at that time - and drilling out a good group right from camp. I also recall one of the other members in camp commenting that he wouldn't dare dial that way on his Leopold because the adjustments were such that it took him a box of ammo just to get it sighted in. But even sometime back, before I regularly visited and participated in RS and other internet forums, other shooters at the range and guys I'd run into while hunting public ground had often at least heard of them and their reputation for reliable dialing.

... Besides this forum, why does the 6x sell out before everything else? It’s a proven scope at an absurdly cheap price, but beyond that? ...

The "proven" and price are factors, but there's more.

The incredibly well designed reticle. Fine enough for precision, outer bars bold enough to subtend in low light/busy backgrounds. Mil/half mil of useable size. Not many reticles beat it for all around usability.

The well designed turrets. Readable and in turns of 5 for longer adjustments. Enough spacing between clicks, and clicks that are usually solid enough, that you know what you've dialed by feel on shorter adjustments when you stay behind the scope. The turret size is big...but there are pro's in use.

Parallax, especially for use on rimfires. Though it's not a slim/trim scope, the placement of the parallax adjustment saves having another extension on the left side of the scope.

The "cover" of the front objective, although large and making the scope longer, results in a recessed front lens that likely helps the "decent" coatings avoid glare. It also helps a bit in rain.

Again, the proven and price are big factors, but it's really a well put together package.

I just cancelled my order of one of these hopefully one of you folks can snag it. Not sure if they will post it or email Wendy and try to get it.

Has anyone reached out to see if they expected more anytime soon?

Waiting for a 4th of July sale was a bad plan.

Damn it I don't check rokslide for three days and I miss this. I've emailed Wendy multiple times this year too.

If anyone accidentally ordered an extra lmk...

Damn. I've been checking the SWFA site pretty regularly for months to try to catch it when they updated. I missed out on this round. Hopefully they'll have more soon. I don't even have the rifle purchased yet, but I want to put one on the shelf to have ready when I start putting the next one together.

I sent a message inquiring about when to expect another batch, but unfortunately they did not have a date.

I heard that the reason they struggle with stock is because the OEM contract that they have does not have a specific delivery or time frame.. whenever that company has time to do a run, then they do one. Because they don't have to answer to a specified delivery date, that helps keep the price down.

Mine just arrived.
  • Impressive eye relief.
  • Turrets are still too damn long.
  • I can easily count tics at 400 yards hand held.

What is up with SWFA being unable to keep in demand products in stock? How hard is it to fire an email to LOW in Japan and get a new batch rolling down the production line... Most bizarre company I've ever come across.

This is not a problem of just SWFA. Maven had it with the 1.2. Your batch is only a certain size, and there is more demand than the number of pieces that come in a batch. Quite simply really
