On a tikka? UM rings. Sportsmatch rings also work.

If you’re putting on another gun with a pic rail- NF rings

I like the UM Tikka rings when they are on sale.

I have a pair of SWFA rings as well. I’ve used them with good results, but they are a bit blocky and look overbuilt (like the scopes).

I use CCOP steel rings on my Mausers.

I don’t have any of these left - sold a while ago my choice are Zeiss in 3-15 on my primary & 4-16 on my backup. I’m a die hard elk hunter & think that magnification range is perfect for thick timber & wide open canyons.

I’ve shot elk at 11 yards & at 550 yards so the bigger zoom is handy to cover vastly different conditions. We practice out to 800 yards so realistic shots at 400 are not that daunting. A seated bipod, pack or other rest is essential for keeping the scope steady at 15x.

What reticle does SWFA put into their 5-20? Mil-quad v2?

The old ones are mil-quad, not sure what the new ones will be. SWFA rep said they will be bringing it back or something comparable magnification wise but did not give a timetable.

The old 5-20’s were discontinued last year I think. I picked one up before the 3-15 g2’s were released or I would have definitely gone that route for a dedicated long range rig. Almost put my spare 3-9 on it, but chickened out at the last minute and wanted an adjustable parallax..

I went from a roughly 8-9 year old SFP 3-15 to a new FFP 3-15 Gen 2 V2 reticle.

You missed the point. At one time Form posted that the Maven RS1.2 was the best Western hunting scope on the market. Then I saw he posted that the Minox ZP5 THLR was the best scope around at any price. And now he posted that the "SWFA 3-9x has no equal on the market at any price". Yet he uses the gen 2 3-15x on his Mk12.

I don’t think that’s quite how those were stated in context. I’ve stated that the 3-9x SWFA is the best overall general hunting scope in the market for 15 years or so. The Minox ZP5 THLR is in my view the best LR dedicated scope on the market. And the RS1.2 was what must want for a western scope. I’m pretty sure one could find where I stated multiple times last year that if the SWFA 3-9x was available, I wouldn’t really be looking all that much at the Maven.

Now.......I'm a glass snob, as close to perfect clarity as I can get reigns supreme with me. I have found many rifle and spotting scopes unusable because they got so grainy as the power went up. But I'm also frugal as all get out, which generally doesn't bode well in the optics market. I'm looking forward to trying this Minox out.

I will be interested to hear what you think with the ZP5.
