Hi, I just bought my wife a .30-30 because she misses the one she grew up hunting with (her dad gave it to her brother). The one we got has a 16” barrel that is threaded because we only shoot suppressed now. I’m looking for some ammo with copper bullets that will perform with the 16” barrel. I’m sure most is designed around a 20” barrel. Not interested in any lead ammo whatsoever. I also do not hand load (yet) so I need something already loaded up. I really like the look of the Maker bullets and I shoot Federal Trophy Copper in my 16” .308 and it does fine too. Would either of those bullets open up out of a 16” .30-30?

I use the 140 gr hammer. Works great and you can get a little more velocity with hammers than other coppers. I am getting 2500 fps with a 20" barrel. Using TAC, which is pretty fast burning, I would guess you would be around 2350-2400 with a 16" barrel.

Not sure if you’re hand loading or buying factory.
Hornady Monoflex bullets/cartridges.
This may be interesting to you.

OP says he doesn't load. I've killed several deer with the factory Federal Trophy Copper and it did great out of a 19" barrel.

What I would give you is that this may be a good catalyst to get into loading. .30-30 is generally a very forgiving cartridge to load for, the components are easily available and you would gain access to a huge variety of projectiles that really allow the round to punch way above its paygrade. 150 TSXs or 120 Hammer Hunters via .30-30 are close to the perfect whitetail hunting load IMO.
