I picked up an STC to compare to my 774 to see if the weight savings was worth it. After spending a good bit of time with both in various conditions the extra light gathering of the 77 is worth the weight for me. It’s so much more comfortable to sit behind and grid a hillside plus the brighter image helps tremendously glassing into the shade. I’m tempted to pick up a new Kowa 66a to see if that is the sweet spot, but I don’t think the extra money for the few oz saved over the 77 is worth it unless you have the rest of your setup dialed with high end light weight gear.I have nl pure 10x42s. Im typically just trying to confirm shooter or not up to 1.5-2 miles away. Do yall think the compact will work for me? Maybe eventually pair it with a 77+ or just go with a mid 60s?
I typically dont carry a spotter at all cause of weight today.

Moa too, would be great for judging bearsMan if swaro would make a decent mil grid ranging reticle for this new mini spotter they'd sell like mad. I'd have one for sure.

Look at the Tricer LP. Works great with the ATC/STC and will save you a lot of weight. It replaced my VA5.I guess I'll follow up here for the sake of completeness. After 6 weeks, just got my ATC back from swarovski. The repair (no cost to me other than 1 way shipping) notes say:
"int cleaning, repaired the focus and replaced the eyecup. Please note the following was also checked during this repair: Resolution, Close Focus Distance, Field of View, overrun at Infinity, Cleanliness of Optics. Leak Test- Nitrogen Fill"
I'm having trouble discerning how different it is if at all. It seems possibly a bit clearer and brighter, and like the focus does snap in a bit sharper and easier. But I read the repair notes, so could just be confirmation bias. I frankly still notice the same possible vague visual artifact from before. But, after they sent the thing all the way back to Austria, and the thorough evaluation and repair they made, I tend to think if they thought anything was wrong with it, they'd have replaced it.
So, I'm comfortable accepting its my eyes. And overall the thing is just incredibly awesome and I definitely plan to have it for a long time. Just bought a Sirui st124 with va5 head to go with it. We shall see how it all works.
