Anyone out there really compared the 10’s vs the 12’s in the field. Obviously the differences are easy to see on paper. But, is the steadiness in the hand, low light, and field of view noticeable? I’d like to run the 12’s here in Montana for what I do, and deal with the “occasional” close timber situations I have, but the 12’s are appealing just for the extra mag for the open spaces of Montana, but don’t want to be needing a tripod every time I use them, and wishing they gathered more light.

You couldn't talk me into hand-holding 12s. That said, they work great for others. This sounds like a personal preference where you have to figure out the tradeoff that suits you best.

Buy both used and re-sell the one you like least would be my vote.

12s on a tripod are a joy to spend time behind. If that's most of your hunting, I'd consider adding pair of 7/8x for handheld use.

I have had the 8x42NLs and upcharged for 12X42NLs and I loved those. But I got the 10X52NLs and can tell you that big pigs or not... They are the best binoculars that I have ever had. Worth the weight. If you can only have one... book it.
