SUPER OLD Three-Legged Idaho Bear

I’ve tried unsuccessfully, always have trouble getting a clean enough section to see anything besides marks from attempted polishing. Have gone up to 1500 grit sandpaper, no dice.

Neat trophy there. Does Idaho allow snares for trapping? They do in Quebec where we hunt and our crew has taken and seen many 3 legged bears over the last 20 years. We think the bears get caught in the snares and are able to break the cable, but it acts as as a tourniquet and eventually the foot/leg falls off. It's the only thing we can think of that makes sense for the number of peg leg bears we've seen.

Interesting! Idaho does allow snares, however I just can't think that anyone would be trapping fur bearers in the kind of country where we killed this bear. Who knows though! It makes as much sense as anything, especially where it was a front leg.
