I don't think you can go wrong with some trailmix. I usually do homemade and personally like it with cashews, peanuts, almonds, granola clusters w/ chocolate, and a small amount of cereal (cheerios or equivalent). Pretty cheap for the quantity you can make, has a lot calories, fairly light. I usually just leave a sandwich bag of it in my pack at all times.
