Just one more quick thought. One of the great things about the Rokslide is all the available resources and information for ”first time hunters out west”. I always enjoy reading those folks write ups, post hunt. I think it’d be a great interview to interview a first timer and get their thoughts on what worked, what didn’t, equipment they used and loved, and things they didn’t. I think an interview like this could really shed light on the fact that you don’t indeed need a 85 swaro, elite mountaineering boots, a complete first lite platform, and a custom rifle to kill an elk or a deer. It might also give some perspective on dealing with crowds and finding game in the mountains. A lot of this stuff gets covered by experienced veterans, but I think new hunters and old hunters alike could take something from an in depth interview with a newer hunter. Really enjoy all the casts so far, glad you all made it happen.

Let’s narrow down some specific questions with pack companies that are sponsors:

I know I’m talking to Outdoorsmans and Kifaru about their newer packs during sheep show.

One thing I’ve been thinking about that would be a good thing to get other opinions around:
A lot of us want to be lightweight, within reason, hunters. It would be interesting from a $ vs ounce perspective, to get some input on where to focus spend and how to most effectively (and cost effectively) cut weight. Things like: how many ounces does going stove less really save? Chopping barrels, lightweight scopes and mounts/rings, choosing a ‘pocketless pack’ that you might need to then add more organization to, vs a slightly heavier, ‘built in organization’ pack. 65 vs 85 mm vs 15s.

Thanks for the call out to be on the podcast gents. I am not too hard to get a hold of, either here or online (@bozeandbears on insta).

Cheers!

+1 on this - and also how saving weight can be counterproductive. My BRS stove was only 25g, but it *sucked* and I bought a 13.1 OZ Jetboil mid-trip. Changing my RF cord to 0.75mm paracord was *stupid* because it got tangled up.

Separately, how about little things to bring or that help that don't get much attention? For me, it was saline nasal spray and chapstick to combat the dry altitude. Have to be some others.

Thanks for all you do!

I really enjoy podcasts on hunting Alaska. Sheep get hit more than the more accessible species like moose, caribou, and blacktail on podcasts I follow.

A hunting version of going stupid light. I’ve found several things that are fine when just hiking/backpacking but don’t cut it when hunting, the brs stove is one of them.

Bow maintenance/tuning for dummies.

I’m always interested in stories and perspective of people coming out west to hunt. Doesn’t matter if it’s their first time or something they do regularly.

Meat care when you’re driving home across five states.

Has there been one on bears? I feel like bears are one of the game animals that kind of get swept under the rug a bit due to alot of places that bait, and just isnt one of the "main" game animals now. Would be nice to get more detailed bear hunting info for diy guys that dont wanna bait.

Maybe some info on predator calling bears also.

This would be a good one . Or maybe some one that has used multiple knives Argali, ironwill, Altitude etc in a comparison of edge retention

People that are successful hunting close to the trailheads and roads, or high pressured areas.
