I'll second the Evolution WT Fury for whitetails. The boy and I have killed several deer this year with that head and the results have been impressive. None have traveled far and the penetration has been excellent.

I agree with the arrow staying in vs pass through. I have shot 1.75" 3 blade mechanicals with plenty of energy to get pass throughs for a very long time. It is rare that I have a deer make it out of sight before dying even in thickets. If I wasn't getting pass throughs I would absolutely look to the max cut I could get with coc.Deer are more likely to die in sight from a very sharp, cut on contact broadhead that cuts through with minimal force. They zip through so fast the deer doesn't really know what happened. There was a large survey done last year showing that deer run a lot further when they have an arrow that stays in them vs a pass through. Also, shot placement: top of the heart, front of lungs and they are dead in about 6 seconds. They can live longer and go further with back of the lung hits.
