subsonic "pistol" bullets and/or sub-x

Yes I’ve passed on archery the last two years. I’ve been hunting huge private tract with some really nice deer and selfishly I don’t want to risk educating them before I can sneak a shot off at 10 yards plus. My shoulders are screaming as well. Lifting 1-2x a day and catching dogs every day at work isn’t exactly a healthy type of experience

i may for science just see what the bullets do in water. i know water isnt 1:1 live tissue/bone, so its only a what it does in water answer

Gotcha. I punched the sub-x into the calculator at 1050fps. Their minimum velocity is 900fps. It should be good expansion out to 200 yards. That’s ignoring the rainbow trajectory and 44” of drop with a 75 yard zero.

The cool thing of subsonic is it has great range except for drop. Velocity decays very slowly at subsonic speeds. I think a 200-300g maker sub would be perfect for what you want. They expand a lot, my experience was animals don’t run far. If anything a bit too much penetration with the 500g. Not much recoil even with a 45-70 and a 400g going 1050. I would be comfortable out to 150 on a deer. Top of back should be enough to cover the drop with a 100 yard zero.

Ive done a bit w 357 mag and 350 L reloading.

You can downsize 357 mag 180 gr xtp to .356 and easily use in Legend. It is rated down to 800 fps.

Ive thought about all this too but you are talking short range stuff (50-60 yds) and my spots are longer range shots.
