Sub 300 yd Whitetail Cartridge?

If you are just looking to buy a new gun because, get anything listed in this thread. It really doesn't matter at the ranges you are going to be shooting. If you reload, look at all the choices, if you do not, go with something with alot of ammo availability.

After a few years of testing amongst our group, I’ve been partial to 6.5 CM with federal 140gr tipped fusions for that application.

I will go the opposite way to most here. Get a 338Fed or 358Win. These two flatten deer and keep them from running better than most. You will have to reload exclusively for the 338Fed and there are only a couple loadings for the 358Win. The slower/heavy bullets mean any kind of bullet works.

If you do decide to get a 6mm, I think the ARC version is about perfect for a 6mm considering powder vs bullet caliber. I have the 22ARC and it is fantastic out to 1000 yards. It would make a good dual purpose rifle.
338 ARC would be fun.

The other day I watched a vid on YT wherein a gentleman was showing how, for him, 6arc was having the ballistic tips becoming sheered-off when he'd try to eject them from the chamber without shooting them. Might be worth investigating if this was a fluke incident.

BTW ya already got 6.5cm. Why wouldn't you just use that? Like loaded with the 120gr ttsx?
That seems like clickbait to me… I call BS on that YTber.

What is the mechanical action of the bolt that has enough force to shear off tips?
Have you ever tried to mess with the tips before?

Dud did it without any edit to the contiguous clip of vid, that I remember watching.

22 Creed
6 Creed

Pick the Best bullet for terminal performance & accuracy.

My pick, in that order. The 22 is better because due to the less recoil many times you can see things happen in the scope that you don't get to with bigger cases.

Good luck and congrats you're state is a little less dumb today than it was yesterday 😂

Being able to spot shots is key. It’s a game changer for sure. Changed the way I choose my
Rifle cartridge & Build Components.
I’ve noticed I’m waaay more relaxed, accurate, & confident shooting my 22 Creed setup.

I load 90gr TGK’s to book length. These are first quality bullets, not seconds. I’ve had two shear off tips. I can’t figure out why. I don’t know how many others have sheared and I didn’t know. The two I found were rounds that were extracted after being loaded by shooting the cartridge before it. I wonder if it’s not a magazine issue more than a barrel extension problem. I use ASC and Amend2 mags and the issue has only happened knowingly in the ASC mag. I did miss a chip shot at a groundhog this year twice and I can’t understand why unless the bullet was messed up.

Super weird for sure. I guess I can see it more in an AR, I assumed bolt gun.

Did you find the tips anywhere?

6.5 CM is my go-to personally

Tried .243 with 85gr TTSX’s and had mixed results, 1 dropped in 20 yards, had 1 run 100+ yards with good blood and had a 3rd run 500+ yards and lost her.

I’ve taken 10+ deer with 6.5’s and 140’s BT’s /143 ELD’s with an average distance ran of 36 yards.

Obviously bullet choice, shot placement etc all come into play…and I’m sure if I tried the 90gr BT’s in the .243 I’d have better luck.

There’s nothing wrong with .223 / .243’s, but personally I’d rather go 6.5 / 7mm-08 to give yourself a little more “oooomph” because we’re all human and mistakes happen.

270 win with 110 TTSX at 3400 fps…zeroed at 250 yards gives a MPBR of over 300 yards. Forget about holdover and windage and let the finger of god do its thing
