I bet 2nd and third seasons will be overloaded with pressure. I put in my scouting and am going to stick with my plan, though, I admit to being a little nervous going in deep to over 11,000 feet in these conditions, however, I’m confident the elk will be there and I have the gear to stay warm.

I am doing something similar. I don't know if I can get up to that elevation though. I won't know till I get to the unit on Friday afternoon. Be safe. Glad I bought the LPP. It will come in handy along with down pants as well.

just be super careful on the 'roads.' just about got sucked over the side on a dirt/mud road at lower elevation only a few hundred yards in after the first rain. we've had more rain since and then with some snow... i turned around yesterday on a road at 8k, was just too sloppy to go forward.

Dang. Wolf Creek ski area is opening this weekend (Oct 13). I’m not sure if any CO ski area has ever opened before A-Basin.

i would just stay off the secondary dirt roads altogether as they will be a mess and you will just make them worse by trying them. stick to the gravel roads.

Nope, me and partner had bull tags and where we started out was at least 2' of snow with no elk in the usual places so we dropped down after picking a new place on the map, could have filled cow tags within an hour of setting foot into the new area in the middle of the day and were around cows/spikes the whole time at close range. Only had 2 days in the new turf and should have punched my tag but fumbled it in the predawn light. I'm going back out with a leftover cow tag in a couple weeks.
