Stone Glacier Tokeen 2600 Day Pack Review ***Updated 7/21/24***

Well definitely room for a couple of nights; tight but doable.

Possibly, it's definitely water resistant but think during heavy rain it gets in at zippers and seams. During the fall it hasn't been an issue (snow/light rain), but last spring bear (heavy moisture) the bag got wet and stayed wet until I hung it with all zippers open and wiped it out. It wasn't really an issue, just something to be aware of.

Noisy is relative. Out west it hasn't been an issue, but had it for a week in south Texas still hunting/spot and stalk archery Nilgai and whitetail. I really noticed the noise then. Cordura wouldn't of been too much quieter, but it's noticeable. That is also when I noticed it snagging on everything and got a few tears, but it's south Texas, everything is pokey, dry, and sharp.

I don't want to clog up the thread, looking forward to the review, it's a bag I am definitely interested in.

I have the Peregrine and Merlin Talon by SO. Totally agree, these technical fabrics are far noisier than Cordura.

They also stand out like a sore thumb compared to what can be done with Cordura.

On the upside, they don’t wet out like Cordura and can be made really watertight. In rainy/very damp environments, they offer water resistance without impeded bag access.

Otherwise, Cordura has many advantages that I prefer.

I've been looking at the Tokeen pretty hard and this has been the best review I've found... wondering how it compares to the Kiowa and which would be best as a do-it-all travel/hike/gear hauler. I really like the Velcro panel in the Kiowa but this Tokeen looks a little more streamlined for moving through urban environs... have you (or anyone) been able to compare them?

I haven't tried one out, but have handled one in their store. The Kiowa has more external organization and more volume overall. The Kiowa has a more substantial belt and iirc, the shoulder strap are a little more heavily padded as well. Larger volume too.

The Tokeen is lighter with the more water resistant fabric. As you say, it's definitely more streamlined.

Yeah I wouldn't complain if it had those.

Also prefer the small weight penalty for side pockets if they decide to come out with a frame friendly version. Please.

I've got about 150 miles on the Tokeen now. SG is going to send me a couple of belt pockets which will help on keeping stuff handier.

I'm using a stretch pocket from another pack for a shoulder bottle pocket (16 oz Nalgene)

Tony- they just have the attachment points, they have a bladder sleeve that hangs off of those

I'm hoping they can come up with viable belt pocket(s) and a hip bottle holder

SG sent me two pockets, they weren't designed to go on the Tokeen (or Avail) belts, but it's definitely doable. The newer SG pockets are pretty nice—they have some rigidity built in so they open/close easier and have a spot to hold shells

yeah ordered one of those too; looks like it's a breeze to swap holder from pack to pack too

I like mine but I find it difficult to position in such a way that it doesnt interfere with the shoulder strap curvature. I am interested to see how you like the inreach holder

A note on the hip belt pockets—I had one fall off on a recent hike. There is just the shortest of 1" strap left for the pocket to hold onto and the way the pocket fits, it's pushing on itself making it more likely it will come off.

Not elegant, but wrapped a length of Gorilla tape around the end which I think should prevent the strap from slipping through the buckle.

@mtwarden does this pack have a load shelf? I don’t feel like it does but there aren’t great pictures of the frame on the website. It seems like it’s enough to do a single overnighter, but I’m curious to know if you could pack a quarter in that thing?

No- it’s definitely a day pack, not a hauler. But you can remove the small frame and waist belt and then attach it to one of their hauler frames giving you a pretty light/compact day hunting hauler.

On it’s own, probably get ~ 35-40 lbs of meat out.
