Mine tapers towards the bottom of the meat shelf and hits just above the bottom of the belt.I think it is closer to the top, but I would need to verify. I'll check that when I get home.
The load cell goes to the bottom of the waist belt on mine.does the load cell terminate at the bottom of the hip belt or the top? Like the load shelf on the break away frames
I will second this. I love everything SG but the sling does not work for me at all. I have to use the compression straps.ive always used a kifaru gun bearer on my packs. I dont like how with the SG sling you have to strap the rifle to your pack and then throw your pack on hoping that your rifle doesn't fall off
Loud but still function as intended. How are these packs in the cold and snow?

I was torn between the 7000 and 8700. I went with the 8700 for a bit of extra organization at a minimal weight penalty. Another thing to keep in mind is that the internal load shelf takes up some of that space when packing meat. So the 8700 essentially turns into a 6500 at that point. With that being said, I am happy with the pack. The main bag still compresses nicely when in day pack mode. The lid is rather bulky but I believe it's the same lid for both sizes. I think that it ultimately comes down to the volume of gear that you bring on your typical hunts and how much you value an external pocket. So 7000 vs 8700?
You gain a lot of space and only 4 oz.

I just got back from a sheep hunt in the Yukon and I don’t see why you couldn’t cut the bag out. That being said, it worked really well as far as keeping the cape in one place. I was able to squeeze a full body Dall Sheep cape in there and it fit albeit very snug. I’m not sure you would gain anything but cutting it out. Not from a space aspect at least. It was very tight but I got my entire camp and the sheep cape/horns out. My guide carried meat. If I could do it over I would get the 8700 instead of the 7000.Would there be any reason to not just cut out the load cell? I have always just loaded my sleeping bag, tent, and sleeping pad in a contractor bag underneath boned out meat up off the bottom of the bag, and couldn’t really care less about some blood being inside the bag at the end.
I understand the appeal of having a separate compartment but as a sheep and goat guide I try to utilize every bit of inside space and the compartment seems like it may be a hindrance if you prefer to pack stuff vertically inside the bag rather than using the load cell. That being said, I suppose a guy could just forego using it and pack gear and meat right up against it.I just got back from a sheep hunt in the Yukon and I don’t see why you couldn’t cut the bag out.
