Stone glacier solo

So I am thinking of pulling the trigger on a stone glacier solo after reading up on it. I want something smaller and lighter, but strong and able to handle packing out game. Plus it had attachments I can add for additional inches. Does anyone have this bag. Thoughts? Is it comfortable? Thanks

I just sold my Solo and bought the Skyarcher 6200. Just depends on what you want to be able to do with it all. I ran the Solo with a 2500 cu in dry bag as well, and two spotting scope pockets last year. That worked pretty well.

I've got a solo and an sky archer. I use my solo for a day pack and will be using the archer for sheep and 10-12 day trips. Both packs are awesome. I also used to solo last year for a few multi day weekend trips and it was the perfect size for that. Has a nice pocket inside the main bag for smaller items and the other small pocket on the exterior for small items. Works great for a day pack for me.

I want to use it for 3-5 day hunts. I really am wanting to lighten things up. I figure if I want more room I will have a cuben fiber bag made to attach to the outside of the pack to give me another 900 cubic inches. I know there is one made for the bag already, but want to cut weight. I have a kuiu ultra 6000, but really doubt it's ability to haul 100+ pounds.

The Solo is a great fit for 3-5 days. If you've got extra gear that won't fit, sandwich the heavier stuff between the bag and frame. As your trip progresses and you eat, you'll then have more space in the pack bag from eating your food.

I have had the solo since june 2013. I have been totally happy with it. I agree perfect for 4-5 days. I can hillbilly it up for 10 days pretty easy.

If you really wanted to lighten things up and simplify it, you could always get the Approach bag and keep all your daypack stuff in that, and then sandwich in one or even two large dry bags with your camp and food etc. Then if you drop camp to hunt, all you've got on the frame is the Approach bag, and still have the capability of hauling out 100+ pound loads as well.

I do something similar with my Terminus and Approach. Day stuff in the Approach, camp in the Terminus, and whatever I shoot gets sandwiched between the Terminus and the frame. I leave the Terminus at my camp while hunting, so I only have the Approach while hunting.

I have the sky5100 and normally keep it in bivy mode, which is 3500cu in I think. I really like that setup. Nice and compact but can up the area if need be.

Whichever SG pack you end up going with you wont be disappointed, they are very well thought out and durable and Kurt provides amazing customer service. I can get away with 3-5 nights using just my solo and no load shelf. Adding an access bag gave me enough extra space for upwards of 7-9 days but Im OCD with what I pack and how I pack it. This year Ill be matching the Solo with an Approach bag for spotting scope and tripod pockets as well as the ability to have a devoted day pack while out. Ive been putting lots of miles on the Approach this winter and am really liking its daypack ability.

The Approach is the bag I started with and it is one of my all time favorite bags. It is very versatile and I love it for quick 1.5 day scouting trips.

I have the Sky 7400, but am going to get a new Solo here soon for a very specific trip I have in mind. It'll be a 8-10 day trip, so I'll use the load shelf and load cell for my food storage on the way in. I'm wanting to use this strictly because I'm going to have a couple miles of nasty bushwacking and want my pack to be filled up and solid with my gear to minimize on alder's grabbing my pack. The gear list will be really streamlined and weight minimized to the fullest. It should be interesting and I'm sure the new Solo bag quality will be superb, like all of the other SG gear I've seen.

I just got the Skyarcher and it has a top lid. I'm probably going to just run it without the lid at all. Not a big fan of lids.

I've had a sky 5100 for a year now and used it for a couple trips last year. Just bought a solo from 5milesback and have used it a couple times. I'm not a big fan of lids either, and have only used my sky in bivy mode. I'll keep it for extended trips when I'll need the added space of the lid and collar, but I think the solo will cover me for most of my hunting, and I think I can get 5-7 days out of it.

I actually bought the 5100 and the solo - ended up returning the 5100 because I felt the center zip was difficult to use when the bag was full. I will be adding either a lid, access bag or approach before next season. I want an archer pack but as of I know I simply just don't need it - the design of the solo allows you to stuff more in it than you would think, and have easier access.
