That was crazy! I had to rewind the video as I couldn't believe how you just all of a sudden turned around and chucked the first pack off a 50 ft cliff. lol

They certainly got the right guy for the review, I don't think I could intentional abuse a pack the way you did.

Abuse?

You never know when you are going to find yourself in a spot where you and your pack are going to need to take separate paths down the mountain:

That music is better! I wish I could throw packs off a cliff for testing!

I did this same torture test this past fall. I was "cliffed out", as the video says, and my situation was quickly becoming dangerous. The two packs tested were a Barney's frame pack, and a Kuiu Icon pack. Both packs were heavily loaded with sheep meat, cape and horns. The packs tumbled a couple hundred feet down a mountain, at a significant velocity.

Barneys' pack survived unscathed. No damage whatsoever. Kuiu pack broke its carbon fiber frame. Another thing I noticed about the Kuiu pack, was the use of cheap and chincy buckles and hardware. Multiple buckles broke on the Kuiu during the course of our hunt.

I've yet to be convinced that I will ever use anything other than an external frame pack for any of my mountain hunting. That Kifaru pack looks nice, and has me tempted to give one a try, I just don't think it can handle the rigors and abuse that my packs go through during a typical fall hunting season.

I would honestly talk with Aron about the abuse he puts his through, if you are worried about it just get a Kifaru pack with a Duplex frame. I would be really suprised if the Duplex with a highcamp bag didn't do everything your barney's does with more comfort.

Nothing gets beat up more than a heavily used pack in the military NOTHING! Kifaru and MR hold up just fine.

Bitterroot Bulls that was heck of a durability test. After their pressure wash. How long did it take the packs to dry out?

Sorry for the delay. The outsides we're dry, insides damp this afternoon. I took them off the frames and flipped the bags inside out to finish drying.

They spent the night in cold conditions though.

I am down with that. I don't doubt Kifaru and other premium packs are of the highest quality and can withstand the rigors of severe abuse. I guess in my circumstance, it comes down to the ability to "comfortably" move extremely heavy loads, and for me, I've never found anything other than an external that sufficiently accomplishes that.

I recently wagered $831 that you are wrong. Good luck to me.
