SG seems to be what Sitka was about 15 years ago. Starting out with a great yet simple no frills line that works for serious mountain hunting.

I hope they don’t go down the super specific and diversified rabbit hole that Sitka is currently down (different garment for every 10 degrees of temperature change and paying instafluencers that have killed the same amount of animals as most 12 years olds to model said garments in their walk in closets). I also hope the quality of their garments doesn’t fall off like Sitka did. I’ve got 10 year old Sitka stuff that’s seen 10 times the use as some relatively new (2 year old stuff) Sitka gear. The two year old stuff is torn to pieces in comparison to the older stuff.

- it’s significantly more coverage on fit than a lot of other jackets you might be comparing to like a Sitka aerolight, Kuiu kenai, Patagonia synthetic like nano series.

What does this mean?

I took delivery of two Enduro Hoodies yesterday (edit: size Large). Fit is good - generously size chest, shoulders, sleeve length. Hood fits like it should. I am 6' 195#, athletically built. The material doesn't seem to be particularly technical, it's just a lightweight polyester with polygiene - comparing to the sitka core lightweight series. That said I would imagine it's much more durable, and like the description says, pilling resistant.

Side note - it's made in China. I've written before that I understand most textiles are made in Asia, but I would strongly prefer any other Asian country over China.

I got one in the mail yesterday. I’ve had (and tried on) quite a few insulation jackets so have a few thoughts right away on it.

- If you’re looking to buy one, the closest jacket to it that I know of to it is an Atom AR from Arctyrex, for comparison purposes of where it might “fit” in use. I always thinks it helps when companies talk about “why” they design things certain ways, so hopefully SG puts more out there like that.
- insulation is 133g/sm and not “mapped” meaning it is that weight everywhere. That contributed to why it’s not 15 oz or so and closer to 21. The Atom AR is 120 g/sm in some areas, 80 in some, and 60 in a few spots.
- fit is exactly like the revised DeHavilland jacket fit. Which is good.
- it’s significantly more coverage on fit than a lot of other jackets you might be comparing to like a Sitka aerolight, Kuiu kenai, Patagonia synthetic like nano series. Collar is very high and nice. I took of photo of a gen 2 kenai on top of it which really illustrates the size. Both mediums.
- pit zips add weight and the Kuiu kenai has them as well. This is much more insulation than a kenai has though.
- the face fabric is pretty dense, and soft, but you can tell it’s a bit less open than what Kuiu uses on the kenai series. It isn’t super shiny, fairly matte.
- it would have to be a fairly chilly day to hike in this thing. There’s a few days in rifle season this year I wore a brooks down sweater all day just to keep warm, and this would fit that bill a lot better, but again way warmer.
- hood has the single pull point SG design - what’s odd is the stretch cord isn’t connected, it’s separated into two pulls, one for each side. I’m sure there’s a reason for this, they just don’t dive into those details in a catalog or the website. Reminds me of FL turrent design, which again is a good thing.
- the cuffs are really nice, and very articulated sleeves like all the SG stuff, and longer length than a Kuiu or Sitka piece.

Hope that helps if you’re considering picking one up - much different than any synthetic I’ve owned. Windy today so we’ll see how it does out and about.

I definitely want to know how it is out in the wind. Go do it! lol

Same here, got one of those and noted immediately it was a made in China garment.

What I mean by it is best described by that photo where I lay a Kuiu Kenai jacket of same size over the SG one- the SG is wider, longer sleeves, higher collar, and longer in the front AND back. In fact, compared to any synthetic I've had from Arctyrex, Patagonia, Sitka, Kuiu, etc it provides more torso coverage. I made that comment specifically b/c people focus so much on weight - when this is listed at 20.8 ounces, and all those others are 15-19 oz, have to remember the amount of insulation as well as the cut.

@MT_Wyatt The pic of the SG with the Kenai laid over it was extremely helpful - thanks! I'm much more interested in this jacket now than when I first saw it on their website. What's the noise level like on it? I wouldn't expect it be Kenai quiet, but curious to know if that softer face you mentioned makes it a little quieter than typical insulated jackets.

I'd call it pretty dang quiet, closer to like a kenai than apart for sure. It has that soft hand/sweater feeling people say about nano air's, etc. Does not have that slick, coated fabric feel.

Circling back on wind: certainly better than an "active insualtion" piece with high CFM face and inner fabric. I stood out in 30mph gusts and was suprised how well it did - hard to say how much of that is from the face fabric resistence or just feeling warm b/c the insualtion is so thick. Until I walk through the mountains all day with one, hard to say much more than that.

While looking at some of the new products, I saw that they have a new size for pants Medium Large. Anyone have any info on this? I am stuck between M and L with their pants, and neither fit hoping this is the fix. Also make a ridged waist on the De Havillands.

Yeah, they said they created that option because there was a number of guys that the medium was a little too tight and they were swimming in the large. So, it seems the waste will be in that 34-36 range, which helps accommodate base layers for those who felt the medium was tight, and doesn’t force them to size up to the 37 inch waste of the large. I don’t have their pants, but that contour waste system looks pretty adaptable.

I was stuck in the middle and settled on the large but they really are to big. I ordered some in the medium/large today. Hopefully they fit better!

Many thanks for the nice pictures.

I have been looking for something similar to the Arcteryx AR for some time (I can never find that one in nice colors). Looks like a high quality jacket. And the vent-pits probably makes it more allround than the Arcteryx AR?

Any more use since your latest post?

ive got a medium/large pant on order too. I love the DH pants, theyve become my new fav pant. I have an original medium large and i am at the max for adjustment. And with base layer bottom theyre a bit tight, so this new size should be perfect.

Just daily, hard surgery Thursday. Hoping to get out on the Front here today with some wind so I’ll check back in when I have more input, if any.

Food for thought on this jacket - about the same weight as a ton of soft shells…..WAY warmer. Obviously less weather resistance. It plus an M7 and down vest could be a killer combo. But I still think I’d want another down puffy for late rifle glassing sessions.

Only use I don't have on it at this point is working hills under extreme load/weighted pack, will try to report back with that soon. Based on the warmth, and experience with other active insulation garments, this isn't a jacket you are cranking up hills with. I found myself needing something later in the season that was warm that I could wear all day, after my morning push up the mountain. Used a FL Brooks Down sweater to keep warm and block some wind - this Cirque jacket would fit that role well, albiet heavier, but more flexible in use than a down out piece.

After being out the wind a decent amount, easy to say that it blocks wind pretty well for an insualtion piece, and seems to be between (for me) "active" insulation and a static piece. With the pit zips (pit zkuiu kenai is same way, arctyrex atom and proton series along with patagonia nano air pieces do not have pit zips. Sitka Kelvin active is same way) you can really dump some heat, but the face fabric seems to have a lower CFM rating (just my guess) than uncoated stuff they are putting on other jackets. Based on what's shown for specs it (15 Denier Pertex® Face Fabric, also listed as Pertex Quanum in technology section), it appears to be uncoated, meaning it isn't slick like face fabric for a down garment.

As far as your all-around question - I'd guess (I have an Atom LT, not an AR) that the dead bird jacket is better suited for daily use. I'm wearing a Cirque daily currently, just to test the jacket. Personally, I don't really find that any of the SG gear is super "all-around." What I mean by that is the designs are very much geared for on the move, in the mountains, with a pack on. That is what makes the pants, jackets etc so good there, where they really shine. Daily, the sleeves are a bit trimmer and length is a bit longer, than what an Atom AR would be. And there's more insulation. I'll use it for late rifle hunting, daily stuff, adding insulation for later waterfowl hunts, etc. I'll still use SG Grumman stuff, as the space and weight savings are superb.

My one fit gripe with SG is the collars and how tight the necks are - the inside of the jacket collars are a bit bulky (zipper garage, sewn materials, etc) and the neck diameters are fairly small compared other jackets. I wouldn't consider either deal breakers, and the tighter necks (like FL turret hoods) are good for hood fit when you are using it, so there's a reason. The collar thickness could really only get thinner with laminated/glued and not sewn construction. But they also don't cost what Arcteryx stuff (which have very trim collars) does, so reasonable tradeoff to me.

Hope that helps.

My cirque jacket came two days early. So far love it but I haven’t worn it outside the house yet. I have to go on a couple hikes to test it out.

It would be hard to imagine high exertion in the mountains with an Atom AR- so I wonder how effective the pit zips are going to be at dumping that heat. Thanks for the detailed review so far though. Looks nice.

the synthetic jacket has 130 fill vs the 90 in the Kuiu Kenai, much warmer and not real packable. Looks like a layer that you wear when you are leaving it on.
I agree, the cirque will definitely warmer than the Kenai and less breathable. It’s probably going to be more comparable to the first lite uncompahgre or Sitka kelvin aerolite jacket.

I ordered a Cirque jacket direct from SG, it shipped and I tracked it making it's way across Montana and into Idaho. It was in Boise yesterday and scheduled to be delivered last night. It never showed up and I checked the tracking this morning and now it's in Vegas, if I ever get it I'll post my thoughts on it.
