Need a little help at identifying the cause of this! It may be just a faulty manufacture problem or something else. Today while shooting I was switching my bipod from my gun to my dad’s gun and noticed that around the sling stud the paint was “blown up” and what looks to be a very fine crack in the stock. Has anyone seen something like this before? Is it fixable or am I in need of a new stock? Hopefully the pics show what I am refering to. Thanks for any info!

Looks like bad paint. Hard to tell from the pictures for sure but even if it is a crack, at that end of the stock the only issue would be holding in the sling stud and that certainly could be fixed.

If new, return.A 'crack' will seriously diminish value.Been there. If cracked there also may be accuracy issues now or soon.

try using some crazy glue to saturate the crack and use a padded clamp. Wait 24 hrs to set up and it should be ok. I've done that with many a shotgun stock which started to crack at the tang.

What brand of rifle? Many of the factory plastic stocks use very cheap insert for the sling stud and they aren’t held in very well. You can use a little JB weld or bedding compound and anchor it in more solid. Some inserts can be seen from the barrel channel depending on the stock.

would keep a close eye on barrel clearence, like running a dollar bill under barrel or seeing a change in stock clearence from side to side. one of those goofy things that have to get worse before you can fix it or pitch it
